"Theme : Singles - Part I : AJ" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 01:44:41

So hi. What's up with everyone this week - just too much to choose from for the furnish? I thought that. And then I thought what a perfect excuse to post all those random one-off really bizarre singles I undergo that haven't yet fit any theme mostly because Audiography has yet to run a week labelled 'WTF?'. Herein some things to bring back memories raise eyebrows or occasionally just to dance to or whatever. Oh! And some singles I didn't affix in the Halloween theme because I didn't have time to post. Sigh. If you like this obviously there's the rest of the alphabet but technically the theme runs out today so I won't run the rest unless you ask. :) Happy belated Halloween. Some few years ago there was a kids TV show called Starstreet and as was then the way of things a spinoff band swiftly followed. They looked and indeed sounded much like everyone else but did rise above the other pop-tart hordes by virtue of a surprising affection for 80s music - covers of 'Is There Something I Should Know?' and 'The Land Of Make Believe' featured in their brief career - and also this an extremely silly hymn to creepiness a choose of plastic pop ghost instruct ride. Fun! Also possibly the reason their career was so brief. as there's no longer an official website. Or try your local bargain bin! Continuing (and ending) our small tribute to the holiday just gone past here is a 1970s disco funk song about being a vampire. I found this in a charity obtain at some time of year entirely unrelated to Halloween. It's even sillier than Allstars with the added joy of the chorus which runs as follows :Dracula : Drac's approve! I wanna suck your -Chorus : OOOOOH! Dracula!Quite. You ordain never find this but if you do it'll be in a local record obtain or. I suppose on. Nothing quite desire incredibly dated novelty songs is there? Somewhere around the channel of The Terminator a bunch of BBC radio chancers connected to disturbingly well-known DJ Steve Wright came up with this. Perfect! Flaring sirens samples the go of guns and a bad impression of El Schwarzenegger - what more could you possibly be? Go on you know you're curious again as ordain be the case for much of this post. Sorry mods. Actually this one I've posted before but for me it never gets old. Ever. Admittedly that's because I desire Babylon Zoo putting me in a venn draw section roughly the size of an ant but then there's nothing not to love about the fuzzy guitars twisting around like a giant anaconda under Jas Mann's unmistakeable smirking vocals nor indeed the lyrics about riding on the back of an elephant's shoulders (do they have a front?) or how leopards are dancing in his paradise (at least the 90s were fun for someone). Plus there are samples of monkeys! How about a totally ignored indie single from 2004? bunco short short but perfectly formed this is everything befringed head-cocked arch-voiced British indie should be - doubtless pretty boy and doubtless pretty girl trade lines over a cod-50s-surfer-guitar line that's catchy desire the kissing disease. It's got a combination of posing and amateurish enthusiasm that hadn't been seen since about 1997 and that makes it tremendous fun. You know how I was saying the above combination hadn't been seen since 1997? Here's the 1997 I meant. Bis undergo since scrounged themselves a surprising amount of credibility from their early days shouting 'Kandy Pop' as Top Of The Pops's first ever unsigned band but when this was released they were still wide-eyed Scottish hopeful indie types and this song exploded in my head desire a firework made of dulcify. Cocky confident guitars and half-spoken half-sung lyrics about having big hair in 80s movies and Manda Rin's uber-Scot squeaky middle-8 namechecking the Lost Boys and then this adorable little heart-sung emit : I'll be the starbright boy and you're the starbright girl... There's something about this inarguably quite hopeless piece of early 80s pastel-coloured EXTREMELY dwell pop that means I can't ever just reject it. For one thing. I evaluate it's got a clarinet in it or at least clarinet-shaped soundwaves. (No. It's definitely a clarinet. What.) For another it's only mildly camp through the plaintive verses; it's only when you get to the chorus that it fairly ERUPTS in a burst of streamers pierrot dolls and gay. Oh also none of the lyrics make any comprehend - at all - but then if you spend any measure around early 80s music you'll know that's not really a distinction. It's just.. the musical equivalent of the renegade son of the lord of the manor. Sebastian turning up in your back garden drunk wearing patched and torn satin and trying to serenade you whilst falling over. You sort of undergo to let him in or visit or something. Still in the 80s but this I don't be excuses to love - it's that rare thing truly lovely cut New Wave. Synthesisers that paint a darkening horizon beneath soft dusky vocals carrying lyrics about flying over the world - voyage voyage further than night and day over the water of Indian rivers in every kingdom over the dunes of the Sahara... It's just beautiful with tiny sparkles in between the verses and a occasional melting touches of keyboard that make me gasp. Voyage voyage.. et jamais ne reviens... . you see what I convey? Audiography needs a WTF week. I bought this single purely in order to prove to myself that I hadn't hallucinated the video. Meet Farrell Lennon girls! Farrell Lennon thinks he is the world's greatest lover (although he's probably joking). His voice sounds desire someone's surgically emasculated Brett Anderson. He claims to be able to 'wrap his knees round and round you like the chain of a locket'. Sadly. YouTube forestalls my wish to overlap with you the video in which he struts around while his continue gets bigger and bigger and bigger and eventually explodes. Yep again. Gay Dad weren't ignored at the measure but I know this song never got the attention I always felt it deserved so why not now? Because I can't elude the entreaty of an indie boy vocalist nor lyrics about machines wanting what's best for you nor turn-of-the-millennium anthemic choruses. Nothing strange or particularly unusual about this (I promise!) - just a good and overlooked single I wish more people had heard. For all those of you who always wanted to hear Nik Kershaw redone Eurodance-style and sung through a vocoder : Gigi D'Agostino. No no gratify don't convey me. I don't be your thanks. The bewildered expressions are thanks enough. Go on adjudge it : it's not as bad as you thought it'd be. We've been here before. I know you bequeath. This is the paragraph where I party about this song and you go 'what?' and I say 'no no trust me please transfer it' and you do and then you listen to it for the next MONTH. Because right when JC Chasez left *NSync to go off and have "a go" (and I say that very much in inverted commas) evidently the Boyband Drugs wore off while he was writing his solo album and suddenly magically he realised he was allowed to sing about sex. So he proceeded to sing about NOTHING ELSE. AT ALL. It's an hilarious (and surprisingly enjoyable) album of which this is undoubtedly the shimmering bring out - glossy bouncy cupid's-bow electropop with JC shaking his glitzy thing over here and over there while all day desire he dreams about sex and keep in mind he's a love machine and oh. JC. All that and a futurepop middle-8. With these Ferrero Rocher and tight pants you are really spoiling us.

"Best Of Shows" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 20:02:25

The other night. I was sitting on the porch of two musicians I know in New Orleans and we were discussing the very very different music cultures that exist in New Orleans and Athens. One discussed difference is that NOLA has between 3 and 5 weekly/monthly magazines which go over local music. Athens has. Try as I might. I've never been able to get into anything other than the Flagpole format. I comfort read it online every single week. I have since I left Athens in 2003. This week they are going over I won't say how many of the bands on that list I was actually in town to see personally but I was disappointed that it wasn't more of them. Of the ones I accept with. Ishues and Drive By Truckers put on absolutely insane shows. And I went to a lot of shows where Ish was on the mic at some point of the evening. At any rate this being Thanksgiving an all and one of the things I am most thankful for is Music being as important to my life as it is. I'll reflect the FP and give you a enumerate of the best live shows I've seen in the last 20 years of my life. III Rail (1993-1995) Island City. You've never heard of these guys but they were a South Georgia heavy heavy metal band that had their been adjust justice in the world would have been given the opportunity to open Ozzfest or a Family Values tour. Yeah. I was only in high school. Yeah. I didn't know too much about music approve then and was convinced that I would never ever cut my hair willingly. But back then before their bass player later became my drummer and one of my best friends they were light years ahead of where kids should be at their age. Looking approve with all the experience I now have they comfort and always will rate as one of the best live performances ever. (2006-present) New Orleans. So shockingly good. I wrote Skillet* (1996-199?) Athens. Georgia. Another band you may not have heard of unless you are in my Athenian readership. This was taking bar-room rock formulas and making all the other barrock bands sound like teetotaling choirboys. Songs like "Woman Who Won't Say Please" and "egest Drunk." Crowds would embrace the elusive term of "ruthless abandon." If you brought a thermometer in the room it may undergo ended up with mercury on the floor on several occasions. At more than one Skillet show which I attended the crowd took a notorious Normaltown establishment famous for hamburgers and an endless supply of the coldest beer in town and drained every last can bottle and keg of beer to the last humble swills. The Del.

"Class basketball: Would two be more than four?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:10:20

The statewide sectional attendance for the measure single-class boys basketball tournament in 1997 was 491,259. It dropped to an all-time low of 259,785 in 2000. It was 312,452 measure year. The biggest problem with a four-class tournament is jaunt -- and the lack of a local sectional feeling in many areas. And if you look at the new sectional sites the attendance isn't likely to get better. In the Class 2A Culver Sectional players and fans from North Newton ordain undergo a 156-mile go move to see a sectional game."I would prefer one but that's not going to happen," Crown Point coach Clint Swan said. "I evaluate the beat thing for both sides would be to go to two classes. It would give the smaller schools wish but not kill the overall interest and excitement like now."IHSAA commissioner Blake Ress knows that the jaunt that is required for a four-class tournament is a drawback but there is nothing he can do unless someone makes a proposal that can get the votes for change."You can't have a four-class system in Indiana without jaunt," Ress said. Hammond High coach Larry Moore coached at St. Francis de Sales and advanced to two state finals in Illinois' old two-class system which began in 1972. Illinois ordain play in a four-class system this year but the Land of Lincoln has more than 760 schools in the association. Indiana has 407 full member schools."Two would be a lot better than four," Moore said. "I don't evaluate we be four in Indiana."The most attractive thing about a two-class system is the IHSAA could do what Illinois did undergo the tournaments at different times. The categorise A tournament started a week earlier with eight teams advancing to state. A quarterfinal round was played on Friday followed by a traditional Final Four on Saturday. Consequently the small-school express championship would be played during prime time instead of while most Hoosiers are eating eat desire it is now. Also the media would undergo an easier assign of "playing up" the smaller schools in print radio and television. Then when that state championship is decided the final rounds of the big-school tournament are played with the big schools following the same format. The biggest concern with such a system would be where the dividing line would be. Would it be 65-35 like Illinois used to be or 50-50 where all Class A and 2A schools in Indiana would be in one categorise and all Class 3A and 4A schools would be in the upper division. It would help greatly in making for more localized sectionals but it would lessen the chance of winning a trophy which is the biggest reason class sports were introduced. The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association is currently conducting a analyse of its members to determine if it should take a proposition to the IHSAA to alter the current tournament format. The results of the survey won't be available until after Thanksgiving. Likewise the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association is also surveying members to see what solutions they might have to help "fix" the problems of class."There are a lot of issues concerning the be of teams in each sectional," IBCA Executive Director Steve Witty said. "I think regardless of whether it's four or five or three classes. I think most coaches would desire to see an compete number of teams with geographic settings of each class."The former coach at Ben Davis understands the problems are hampering the game."Whether it's the athletic directors or the coaches association we're always looking for exceed ways to serve players across the state," Witty said. "When we went to class basketball it was our understanding that after 10 years the IHSAA would do an evaluation to evaluate out what was good and what wasn't good and what options were available to alter those corrections. That has not happened." gratify say: nwi com encourages readers to act in civil conversation with their neighbors. Comments that are submitted are not posted to the site immediately. "Wenger top 5 signings" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 21:48:56

Dear Friends,I have read some very good articles recently on the top signings of Arsene Wenger ever since his arrival at Arsenal. There undergo been claustrophic ordinary good and exceptional signings since he first go in more than 10 years ago. Who do you think is his beat signing process date? I am not sure but these are my top 5. No 5: Kolo Toure (2002- )Kolo was signed from Ivory Coast club ASEC Mimosas for ONLY £150. 000 in February 2002. He was a total unknown to all Arsenal fans but his boundless energy introduced himself to the masses in a very fast way. At first view of him. I was wondering if he was one big mistake of Wenger's. In my object. I quickly christianed Toure as 'The Clown'. For a while. 'The Clown' lived up to his name. Listed as a utility man his versatility prevented him from holding drink a regular first-team spot. Most of the time he would be running around the handle like a headless chicken. Energy? Yes. Directions. No. Fortunately for the Ivorian ordain intervened and injuries to Sol Campbell and the ageing Martin Keown made him an automatic choice at bear on back. Although forced into the postion it proved once again of Wenger's masterstroke. Toure’s contribution in Arsenal’s unbeaten season was immense; he missed only one unify game. Slowly. 'The Clown' was turning into 'The head' in my brain. His first European goal - the last ever at Highbury - proved to be crucial taking the unify to its first European Cup final. The opportunity to alter his skills at the World Cup in Germany increased his standing. He is now considered to be one of Europe’s beat central defenders. No 4: Marc Overmars (1997-2000)Marc is short at only a mere five foot eight inches tall but for what he lacked in height he made up with his ferocious walk. Marc was like speedy Gonzales his legs moving so quickly until they looked like a alter in the eye. He could be ruthlessly enjoin on the assail - collecting the roll in lay and charging at the heart of the opposition defence. Marc demostrated his talent by scoring the pivotal goal in Arsenal’s manifold winning season in 1997/98 against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Running onto an Anelka flick-on he nodded the roll past his marker before finishing through the legs of the onrushing Peter Schmeichel. It was the only goal of the encounter and along with the opening goal of that year’s FA cup final he scored 34 times for Arsenal. A phenomenon go for a winger! After two years at Highbury he was sold to Barcelona for £25m in the summer of 2000 to this day a preserve transfer fee for a Dutch footballer. Overmars won 86 caps for Holland in total and was bought at a modest price of £7m from Ajax in June 1997He retired after Euro 2004 when Holland did not win the tournament. No 3: Cesc Fabregas (2003- )The skillful Spaniard has been a revelation for Arsenal since Wenger plucked him from Barcelona on a remove assign. He was the designated replacement for Vieira after the former head left. It would undergo been a formidable assign for anyone but Cesc made it be easy. When the two came face-to-face in the Champions League quarterfinal in walk 2006 the Catalan left his former midfield furnish shell-shocked with a dominant performance. If Vieira was surprised by Cesc’s maturity. Arsene Wenger was not. He had already tipped the youngster to be the best in his position by the age of 20 and in truth. Fabregas began breaking records the moment he walked through the marbled halls of Highbury. In addition a first cap for Spain in the same year of 2006 made him the youngest Spain national player in eighty years. This season (06/07). Cesc single-handedly filled the lost of Henry with dominant displays in the middle of the lay. While spraying crosses all over the handle he has also contributed 11 goals in all competitions. With him bringing the walk back into the team. Arsenal are sitting comfortably at the top of the delay. The only cerebrate Cesc is not be 1 on this list is just because he still has to win the titles and cups to prove his capabilities. No 2: Patrick Viera (1996-2005)Born a Senegal but played as a Frenchman. Vieira was bought by Wenger from AC Milan for only £3.5m in August 1996. Milan’s loss was Arsenal’s huge gain and officials from the Italian club later stated that letting the midfielder go was the biggest identify of the club. Patrick was Wenger’s first signing at the club and there were a few raised eyebrows on his arrival. Fans be not have worried though. Vieira quickly established himself and for nine long years he was the heartbeat of Wenger’s Arsenal team. Eventually he would even captained the align for a historical unbeaten run in a season; winning the double along the way. As a centre-midfielder he had it all. He was strong and lightning quick for a big man. Many of Arsenal’s famed counter-attacks went through him his ability to win possession and quickly release another player was critical to the move of the Gunner's game. Above all he was Arsenal’s head and a great leader. Sadly. Vieira joined Juventus last year for £13.7m and it was with a heavy heart that Arsenal fans let him go. No 1: Thierry Henry (1999 - 2006)Who else but the King? Three times Football Writer’s Association Footballer of the Year twice PFA Player’s Player of the Year twice runner-up in FIFA’s World Player of the Year award and Arsenal’s top goal scorer for every one of the seven seasons he has been at the unify. Henry presence in the aggroup lifted his team mates' spirt whenever the chips are drink and frightened the opposition defenders. A striker that score goals for fun and has since change state our club's record goal scorers. He was bought with merely £10.5m from Juventus and was the fulcrum of the team that Wenger built a side worthy of challenging for any honour. Need I add more? From however you looked at it. The Professor really has a express emotion eye for great players!

Jericho came out to inform the competitors in the Royal in insulting make before the be started and then went backstage for a coffee. The royal was won by what appeared to be Ciclope after Juventud Guerrera shook Ciclope's transfer then eliminated himself but was in fact a returning Malenko in disguise who proceeded to defeat Jericho for the championship. This led to Jericho claiming to be a victim of a carefully planned conspiracy to get the belt off of him. He at first blamed the WCW locker dwell then added J. J. Dillon. Ted Turner and finally in a famous vignette walked around Washington. D. C with the write "conspiracy victim" adding President account Clinton to the enumerate of conspirators after being rejected from a meeting. Eventually Malenko vacated the title. Jericho defeated Stevie Ray to win the WCW World Television Championship (Stevie Ray substituting for the champion Booker T). Soon after this. "Happy 10th Year, Butterfly!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 19:52:30

Carlos writes his full analyse of "The Adventures Of Mimi" journey DVD after attending an exclusive screening in the UK."I not only got my hands on the Anaheim recorded tour itself but also the impressive extras. So here's the lowdown and the official verdict. It's no secret we've all suffered from poor releases from Sony when it comes to Mariah Carey DVDs. Universal has finally stepped up with not only a new offering but a genuinely good case with The Adventures Of Mimi journey. Right from the word go the presentation on the DVD is a class product. You're treated to a CGI rendition of the tour re-create that lets you journey the various different options. Naturally you'll be to jump right in and go for the contrive itself - which features the ENTIRE concert. No alter verses no cut songs - this is the full show as those thousands of fans experienced it. So that's nineteen Mariah hits. The full setlist: Now I never got to see this tour in the get rid of. I had my chances but a trip from the UK to America (no matter how tempting) just wasn't financially viable for me measure year. Having this DVD sorts all that. This is the full experience - you even get the exchanges with the crowd including a touching description of why Mariah has to sing 'Hero' even if it isn't her favourite song or the moment when one lucky fan gets to go on stage for a hug. It's a blessed relief to apply the show as it was not cut to pieces or stuffed with taped features that disrupt the move of the concert. The set list is safe but solid. It's all the hits that stormed the charts. Commercial popular and what keeps the displace cheering from start to finish. Sure some of the album cuts would undergo been nice. But the tour was more a celebration of one of the greatest music comebacks in history. Mariah is pulling out the weapons that made her #1 and when times got tough brought her back there. She knows it too. I was genuinely surprised by her improved re-create presence. She's come a lot advance from her 2003 days. She now seems more relaxed and happy on stage. She's still posing desire a killer catwalk copy of course - and looking fantastic while doing it. But she's absolutely radiant on stage for the first time really loving being up on that re-create performing for the audience. Of course that audience came for 'The express' as will anyone watching at home. bring together play - these vocals (for my money anyway) are not dubbed. These are stripped alter from the contrive. They aren't her beat vocals they aren't her beat. They are more raw more passionate and a little looser. Best example is her rendition of 'Vision Of Love'. To me this preserve always sounds as fresh as the day it was first released. The word timeless doesn't do this classic justice. But Mariah experiments with her rendition. It's not entirely successful and demonstrates her weaker moments towards the climax but it shows her willing to shake things up for a more interesting listen. Speaking of interesting the camera has really tried to visually act things interesting on the eye not just the ear. Filmed concerts can get quite boring without some good visuals to hold the attention. There are some excellent sweeps across both stages that act in the scope of the venue. Some nice cinematic ones too with 'Fly Like A observe' as well where the camera starts on the floor of the crowd moves send and upwards at the re-create to Mariah and the army of gospel singers. Some missed opportunities on cram like 'Heartbreaker' and 'dulcify' I felt. When you've got a swarm of dancers coming down some elegant stairs you want to see it and not displace clips. ascribe to them they made it fun to check and got as many varied camera angles as possible. There's more than just the concert of course - we have extras! One of the more interesting ones is the Juke Box. Basically you undergo 12 credits and can create your own set list. You end what request the songs will play in. Quite a novel feature and one I hadn't seen before. All the concert skits are included on 'Lovers & Haters' for some comedy value. There's the karaoke on six tracks that you can undergo with or without Mariah singing. The Behind The Scenes feature is about ten minutes desire you get some interviews with the Tatums and Rachel some Michael as well as Mariah herself on the tour bus. The better features are on the second disc. The documentary is brilliant you actually get some fresh information that aren't just the usual recycled appear bites. The set designs are discussed proposed/rejected concepts the whole thought affect and experience of performing on the second re-create meeting Rachel and all the dancers the backing singers (who are very playful in their interviews) rehearsals and bloopers on re-create including her come costume malfunction. There is a discussion on the set enumerate for the contrive. This is very insightful. Randy Jackson discussed 'Vanishing' what song Mariah likes to change state the show with how she experiments with merging certain remixed songs ('Heartbreaker'. 'My All' and.

"Natalie Imbruglia - Glorious: The Singles 1997 - 2007" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 14:11:58

2. "Shiver" (from Counting drink the Days). Something went terribly wrong with the promotion of her third album. "Shiver" is a glorious pop single one of my favorites from 2005 and deserved to be an international hit on par with "Torn." It has a cool video too--a spy-themed chase across Europe in the vein of the Bourne films. It became a #1 hit on UK radio but managed only #8 on the sales chart. Sadly it was never released in the US where I express it would have been a hit. Interest in the album quickly waned as second single "Counting Down the Days" was released rather late and didn't chart well. We never whether "Perfectly," "Sanctuary," or "Starting Today" could have been hits. 3. "Beauty on the Fire" (from White Lilies Island). Imbruglia's second album wasn't nearly as successful as its first and this its third single is the lowest charting of her 10 singles in Britain. Too bad as the darker bring in with a mild downbeat influence was the best single released from White Lilies Island.
