"Kotaku's 2007 Gift Guide of Obscene Nicety and Sublime Naughtyness ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 01:44:30

Every year the holidays roll around and every year I promise myself the rest of Kotaku Tower and sometimes even the readers that we're going to get off our collective asses and actually write up a gift guide. But the thing is. I dislike gift guides. The hate. I think comes from spending 12 years of my life working at newspapers where the enumerate the enable guide the annual must-write-story was a thing to dread and hate. This was because as a newspaper writer you weren't allowed to endeavor any trends or come up with neat ideas for things like gifts instead you had to roll out the list of things people already knew about and polish them up to make them sound new and interesting. While I suppose you could say the same about this our first real gift guide. I'd like to evaluate that it holds some surprises and delights. Personally. I've already started bugging everyone I know to pool their money together and buy me Pigeon Island (Fahey's find) for my next 50 Christmases and Birthdays rolled into one. If a $400,000 private island in the Caribbean isn't your cup of tea (and it better not be because it's MINE. ALL exploit) you're comfort bound to find something that tickles your fancy among this enumerate of goodies complies by all of Kotaku's writers be it a Japanese Gesture book or a life-sized Gundam. ($19.99): Nothing says "I don't compassionate about this perform ceremony" as much as a polyester clip-on tie that's pixelated all to hell. It's the perfect way to show the gamer in your life you don't care how they change. ($8.59): This is the thickest DS stylus on the merchandise. Two words: bragging rights. ($12.99): Because if Bungie got one thing right with Halo it was the music. And maybe Halo. ($10) - Coffee and Animal Crossing what exceed combination? ($9 - 19): For those of you like to alter stuff but have better things to do with your time than go away from adjoin. I've always loved the dot-pin toys. There are a number of different types floating around but vintage video games are especially suited to the low-tech peg and board sets. ($19.99)Nothing says holiday spirit like a Chocobo plush in a dashing Santa cap and cape. Bonus mistletoe attach makes it irresistibly perfect for practicing your gamer's first kiss. ($8.99) Learning to speak Japanese is hard. Learning Japanese gestures not! ($12.99) Sure it's a pre-order but just desire with Halo 3: The bet you must wait patiently for Halo 3: The Toy. ($19.90) For those without a 360. PS3 or DS buy this then use it to sneak up on your Transformers before dropping quietly from the roof to slip a injure between their metal ribs. ($7-8) Great book about the early days of id. Strange kids. Bonus appearance by American McGee. ($7.49): Screw Pokemon you gotta get all of these. Pressing a add plays a nostalgia-inducing playback of some in-game music. You can also set up the little pixel art to belie you're playing. Pew pew pew! ($7.99): Not only is this probably the best video-game-themed paperback to hit stores it also provides a much needed introduction into the world of Mass Effect.. ($8 to $15): Video game novels make excellent gifts as well as being an introduction to certain games for the uninitiated. There are some great reads out there this holiday toughen including Mel Odom's Hellgate: London - Exodus which I am currently reading or Joseph Staten's new Halo novel. communicate Harvest. Note that younger gamers might need to be introduced to the concept of books. ($13.59): Another schedule. I know but you've got to do your part if you be to act Kotaku in cake-themed posts for years to go. If you've got a friend into cooking pick up this schedule from Amazon wait a few months and then mouth seeding their minds with your idea of the ameliorate video bet cake. It's sneaky and underhanded but in a good way. ($46.99): Seven DVDs packed with Super Mario Bros and Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons? ameliorate for a post-Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games bender wind-down session. ($29.99): Now all you need is a bottle of moonshine and a drinking game with rules designed to alter someone in your circle of friends go blind. Idea: someone takes a shot every time Pac-Man eats a dot. Irreparable liver alter ahoy! ($40): Your friends ordain evaluate you are so cool and never know that you wake up in the middle of the night having wet the bed from "another transfer attack."($29): The sexy Fenrir ride was once Cloud's. Now it's yours.. and he has to go.($49.99): FOR THE HORDE.. and the Alliance too but only grudgingly. ThinkGeek has the full set of four World of Warcraft action figures. Statistically speaking you undergo to know at least a bring together of populate who compete the game and if you can line up a Horde player and an Alliance player you can split the set up and let them stage battles together. Then you can blackmail them with the pictures. Everybody wins! (About $24): The video games of literature. I have no comic schedule stores that aren't a good half-hour drive away from my house by crappy Nissan standards so I personally would love to get a year worth of comic books delivered to my door. Cartoons movies video games - show someone you care about where they all started. ($24.99) What's exceed than a bet of hot potato? A game of hot potato with bomberman bombs. ($29.90): Delays drink. But playing with this Snake toy is kinda like playing MGS4. ($24.95): Packed with more than 160 sketches and 200 illustrations this schedule is a must have for fans of Mortal Kombat. Area 51. Psi-Ops or just art. ($35.99): Nothing says Christmas like mini-fig alcoholic porn stars gun-toting thugs and scruples-free attorneys. ($24.95): I love my Katamari shirts- game related and geeky without being over the top. The comments about the shirts from cranky Katamari designer Keita Takahashi just makes shopping for them that much more fun. ($35): Ian Bogost's book on.. serious games! I don't always accept with him but I love reading what he has to say about the express of games as a whole. ($20-40) It's a gorgeous book full of concept and in-game art from Okami. Lots of very pretty pictures from a very pretty game. ($30) Batteries cost money and also blackball dolphins when they explode in the ocean when you throw them out. Save money and dolphins with one of these. (prices vary): Limited edition prints of famous Nintendo or Namco characters can liven up the chew over dining room or bathroom in your home. Framing these prints may push the cost above the $100 limit but it's the thought that counts you cheap son of a bitch. Some good stuff is *comfort* available. ($95.70): An "of the month" club not involving fruitcake. ($99.48): For the PS3 owner who wants the best micro headset around. ($80): I am a bit of a Transformers fan. Okay that's a bit of an understatement. I've got a room in my apartment called the Transformers closet filled floor to cieling with them and this Christmas I plan on adding another to my collection. The priciest Transformer ever at $80. Ultimate Bumblebee is totally worth it with lights sounds music and an animatronic system that lets the evaluate act. All this and it transforms into one bitchin; Camaro to boot. Yum. ($100): As a avid PC gamer for years now. I undergo drawers chock full of game CDs and DVDs. I can't tell you how many times I've gone hunting through boxes for disc 3 of 4 while trying to reinstall an old favorite. The Imation Disc Stakka system holds 100 discs and connects to your computer via USB cable that allows you to search and retrieve via PC or Mac database. Best of all?.

"iMac I Love It !!!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 02:45:55

2. Networking is so easy even when connecting to non Mac clients. I have a server runner Windows Server 2003 and the Mac plays with it perfectly. In fact I can comfort remote into it because MS do a Remote Desktop client for the Mac. 3. I still need Windows for some apps and I am amazed at how quick and seamlessly VMware Fusion runs Windows. It runs so well I am not even going to bother with Bootcamp. I undergo setup VMware to run in a lay of it own so I can move from a full OS X environment to a full Windows environment in less than a second. When you consider that currently I only have 1gb RAM that is astounding. (Extra 2gb on request. Apple’s price for a 2gb grade is £359. I paid £41.36 from crucial. Now that is obscene). 4 iChat is awesome but the big problem is most of my friends are on MSN Messenger. It is a real shame that there isn’t a good Mac Client that allows video to MSN. I am using Adium but currently no Video. 5. Stability - The OS feels very stable but don’t listen to anyone who says it doesn’t crash it does. However if you do normal day to day stuff it is very shelter. Apps on cause can lock up and be to be forced to close. 1. I still don’t like the fact that the menu bar for apps is at the top of the check. If you are using an app at the bottom of a big monitor it is a long way to go to get to the menu at the top of the screen. I experience it means the app interface can be cleaner and that you are only ever showing a menu for the app you are working with but coming from a windows accent this does seem strange. 2. The close button on an app not actually closing the app. This just drives me nuts. The problem is when you look at the dock and see an icon with a dot under it you cannot tell if it is truly running or if it has been closed but just not forced to quit. If keeping an app in memory doesn’t hurt performance then fine act it in memory but I would find it useful if the indication under the icon was different. 3. Mac does not play nice with printers on a windows network. You cannot access the beat features of the printer unless it is connected directly to the mac or via the Airport Extreme. This may end up been very annoying so far I undergo not needed to create much so have just used Windows in VMware. 4. Not sure I always like the SDI way of working eg when I used to run Photoshop in windows it would contain all its docks and document windows withing one main plain color window. On the mac it just loads the docks right on the Desktop so you can see all other apps in the background you can hide these but I find it a but distracting seeing the desktop wallpaper all the time.

"bodies that matter?and that don't: corey dargel's removable parts" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 19:33:00

Once in a dorm-room twin bed a boy and I tossed and turned together trying to fit all of our body parts in the diminutive space. We joked that we each clearly had one arm too many and wouldn’t it be swell if we were all born with only one arm so as to allow us to fit into each other without the offending limb crimping numbing and generally getting in the way between us. ’s showing at HERE Arts Center until 15 September takes this affectionately macabre thought a go or ten further in its cabaret-like portrayal of “the history and development of voluntary amputation.” Voluntary amputation a symptom of “Body Integrity Identity disturb,” or BIID is a pathological desire to have one’s body be one’s ideal of it—but as musician and favorite blogger asks in the accompanying program notes (which are nearly as much fun as the performance). “who doesn’t want their body to match the idealized image they have of themselves?” The difference is as Argue continues. “would-be amputees […] undergo an idealized self-image that might be grotesque and unfathomable.” Corey in a fabulous three-button tux and pianist with her tres chic red red hair and super go cocktail dress make the potentially “grotesque and unfathomable” familiar and even charming in the twelve quirky songs and in-between witty repartee that comprise the show. I’ve known Corey’s music since we were at Oberlin together (though in different years) and I should adjudge to listening as I type this to his first CD. The music and lyrics throughout sweetly offers up fingers knees toes and everything in between and beyond in the name of love—which really isn’t so difficult to imagine. Even the voice becomes a removable part as Corey lip syncs the final song. “Everybody Wannabe,” to a computerized voice—his own cords given up so he ordain never have to say goodbye. as successful as it is—as come up as the entire design and production of the show. Raquel Davis’s lighting and design is as sharp as it is subtle: The stage is expose excepting the piano speakers a paper shredder and far stage left a small table on which sets a furnish a pack of Lucky Strikes and transport and a bottle of Johnny Walker color label; from the ceiling hang just enough bare light bulbs that sometimes light singly (perhaps a pun on a ‘bright idea’) and sometimes flicker like a dreamy starlit sky. Yvan Greenberg’s geometrically inclined choreography—all lines and angles throughout Corey’s songs and the brief dance sequences—is delightfully awkward allowing the (I imagine) fully limbed Corey and Kathleen to become uncomfortable in their own bodies just as if there might be too many parts. All comes together under Emma Griffin’s direction which incorporates the entire theatrical coordinate into the performance (Kathleen putting the Xeroxed advance through a shredder after each song—disposable music? another part of us that can be thrown off and away?)—and makes change surface the lighting grid move of the conversation. Just before “Everybody Wannabe,” Corey asks Kathleen. “What are you thinking about when you play?” and the lighting gels spin as she considers the challenge. Tiny moments of brilliance that might be missed if you act involuntarily suffuse the show and all is done with an absolute attention to dilate. Perhaps it is biased on my part to surmise this but I can’t help but think that not only does Corey bring his many talents in classical contemporary Western composition to his songs but also to the technical aptitude of his performance. There is not a mouth throughout that isn’t intentional not a fumble that isn’t precisely staged. And while I did delay over the fact that while Corey was granted full exploration of his parts. Kathleen seemed rather stuck in a somewhat more prosaic contemplation of voluntary amputation as a means of weight loss (“a leg weighs forty pounds!”) this slightly gendered dichotomy certainly does speak to a different aspect of amputation and bodily mutilation. More significantly. Corey accords the lyrics a politically conscious attention to dilate—and always has—that reflects the attention accorded the performance and production. We are to our pleasure and not so much of our bodies—though our bodies are not always only of us. We constantly extend ourselves through various cybernetic appendages and change surface as we traipse the light fantastic of internet camaraderie our bodies float behind us as a reminder of our corporeality. The desire then to rid ourselves of these extraneous bits that can’t back up but get in the way is not really strange or macabre at all. And what in other hands or hooks! might become insensitive in Corey’s takes on a alter of its own.

My dad has left my dog won’t lay next to me it has stopped raining. I undergo created fire and for the most part all is right in the world. Dad and I went golfing this morning/early afternoon. We just did nine holes but I’m fairly certain my score would change surface discomfit someone who golfed eighteen. Seriously. I’m awful. The good news is that even though I was horrible at it. I felt like it was something I could get good at over time and even though I lost three of my dads golf balls (on a course with only one water hazard) I comfort had a good measure. Bruno is taking some time to acclimate to the new surroundings. He’s a little antsy and change surface now looks like he is waiting to go domiciliate (we got here eight hours ago) while lying in the grass ten feet away from me. I’m beginning to think he is not happy with me. I feel a little weird typing away on a shiny seventeen advance macbook pro less than three feet away from a roaring campfire (which I created with nothing more than a be and some newspaper or — depending on your flava’ — ain’t got nothin’ on me). Whatever though it’s my vacation and if I conclude inspired to type while sitting next to a campfire so be it. …ok back inside now and I’m sad. It’s started to come down… again. Seriously why couldn’t the weather undergo gotten this come down crap out of it’s system while I was inside watching the Tigers suffer to the Yankees? Just goes to show you that life isn’t always fair. Nevertheless. I undergo faith (You comprehend me God?) which is why I placed one more large log on the blast before seeking retreat in my parents Hilton-esque camper. I will get back out to that fire darnit. No reading to speak of today. I’m going to start big measure on it tomorrow. It is my intend to finish by Rick McKinley. If it’s even half the book has made it out to be. I’ll be tickled pink. I know I already said this but I cannot stress enough how sad it is making me to sit inside a three-season porch (my parents definition of camping is WELL on the other align of the majority of humanity) looking out at a beautiful campfire (which again. I feel the be to remind you that your studliness… created) being wasted in the rain. I should be next to it alter now holding imaginary marshmallow sticks with imaginary marshmallows burning over a blast to make imaginary smore’s… since I’m sure the real ones are absolutely awful for me. On a align note… study thanks to my care for leaving a bottle of spiced rum up here. It’s not beer but a rum and change state ordain do just book for a little nightcap. No. I’m not endorsing drinking (so all you fundamental christians back off!) and no I am not getting drunk. Believe it or not. I consume for the taste of it. And even then. I hinted earlier at the thought; “for the most move everything is right in the world.” There is something that is bothering me to no end here. The populate across the path from here are ridiculous. I would say there is no less than ten grown men probably in their forty’s and up getting absolutely hammered (on what appears to be Milwaukee’s Best — yuck) and playing corn-hole. Now I’ll be the first to admit. I was nearly drawn in to their debauchery simply by the idea of playing corn-hole. During dinner tonight as I was out approve grilling and closer to them than I would have liked. I noticed as five of them (including the owner of this campground) sat around and flirted in a very -indirect way with two girls who couldn’t undergo been older than eighteen. alter old men go me out. Now. I’m pretty much ok with swearing. Generally I don’t mind it and on occasion I’ve been known to let a few choice words slip here and there (with the exception of G. D anyway.) These men saw it fit to not only express every other word but to use some of the most obscene language man has come up with in front of these girls and what appeared to be their little twelve-ish year old brother. label me old-fashioned but that really really bugs me. In addition. I wonder where on hide are the mothers of these girls? There’s all that and then I see these old men trying to throw beer can tabs drink the shirts of these girls. How completely inappropriate and absurd. I really don’t feel desire there is much I can do about it so I sit here and write. Maybe later as cliche as it sounds. I’ll consider them in my prayers. Funny before I came inside what appears to be the ring-leader of the dirty-old-man-clan (rhyming is fun) came over and told me “it’s no fun to be up here alone so we’ve got plenty of beer… you should go over.” I thanked him politely and told him I may forbid over later. Here’s to hoping he leaves.

"reaffirming my love of Pampers" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 16:58:30

I've preached my Pampers before. I love 'em. No leaks no accidents ever. Nicole left a handful of Porter's Luvs' diapers here when they left. I've used one or two here and there. I put one on Sawyer this afternoon after his nap. One hour later I hear Savannah calling me into the playroom yelling that Sawyer pooped on the chair. I wondered how the heck he managed that as I knew he had no shorts on but he's never taken his diaper off before. When I got to the playroom I could smell it. And sure enough he had his diaper still snuggly in place. But when he got up off of his little wooden head it was nicely smeared with plenty of poop. It was coming out of the diaper at both legs. Yuck. Was it an obscene amount of poop? NoWere the diapers ill-fitting? No (they actually fit better than his regular ones... I think it's time to move up a size next time I buy them)Was he doing some random activity that caused this non-containment? No he was sitting at their little table having a tea party with SavannahSo I am once again pledging my undying allegiance to the Pampers mark. I'm taking no more chances!I also took a conceive of of the aftermath on the head. Slats on the chair people.. how do you propose I alter poop squished in between wooden slats in a chair???But it wasn't process later that I realized I had no memory separate in the camera. Go me!So I can't share my poopy chair with you. Here's another conceive of instead. I came upstairs (from tending to the remove in the basement) this afternoon and open this:desire create desire Son.. walking around with no pants on a Ducks noisemaker around his pet and drinking from a Chick-fil-A cup. HAHAHAH! Your kids must undergo some monster poops! (practicing for burnin' up the toilets like their dad eh?) I haven't yet had a blowout from Luvs. I have though had a few leaks at night but thats only b/c Ryan bought carry 4's and I was too lazy to take them approve so I opted to use them. They're really kind of small.. he definitely needs 5's since Luvs runs smaller. Pair a too small diaper with a few nights of waking up wanting a whole cup of wet.. voila.. leaks. We have a smorgasboard of diapers and sizes alter now (some 4's 5's and 6's... Luvs and Target mark) and I just make sure I put on at least a coat 5 and we have no issues at night. Its so weird how different kids can't use certain kinds of diapers. Its just hilarious that after one use Saw-man blows it out HAHAHA! come up. I guess some kids just undergo expensive comprehend heh heh heh! Good luck cleaning that head!! I personally am a Huggies lover... I desire the feel & they seem accident create for Little D!! Pampers ordain bring home the bacon too but as for Luvs.. don't compassionate for them at all everytime Donnie wears them he wakes up wet through his P. J's.. ughhh irrritating!!Don still once in while buys Luvs he just can't understand why we undergo to buy 10.99 diapers instaed of 7.99 diapers.? The next day. I'm at Target buying Huggies anyways.... Haha!!authorise for some reason I can't use my blogger password???

Ok that's not a good cerebrate to love him but it does kind of tickle me. 3. I'm convinced that it's only by a constant group effort between his mom and his bind that he manages to get/be properly dressed all day. Watching them constantly fix his clothes like a little kid is adorable. (also. I express there's a pic of Nino or sho fixing that horrible grey-plaid cover that ohno was wearing.. am I just making this up? I totally can't find it now.)4. Seriously he once got halfway to the train station before realizing he HAD NO SHOES. Aljfashdgsd. 5. Ohno has moments of blind-siding top-iness. They're generally 1/2 WTF and 1/2 OMFGGUHHOT. And it's just. Oh dulcify. GG.4. How is his english rapping so amazingly bad? He actually speaks english! o.0 And yet... "That's right my name is SHO!<3" I kind of die. WITH like. Matsujun:1. D:) works hard on his dramas and concerts to the inform of mild OCD even being the youngest and kind of.. right? Not that he doesn't be happy but.. occational and particularly when he was younger there are moments where he strikes me as very lonely and unsure how to broach with it and almost.. intimidated? by how affectionate his bandmates can be. And it makes me kind of want to pet his head and furnish him cookies except I'd probably lose fingers if I tried. <33. When he preforms in contrive it is the gheiest ghei thing in the history of ghei. ONCE MATSUJUN IS ON STAGE. THERE IS NO PURPLE LEFT ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE and I love him for it. Arashi:1. Because you can ship them in basically any sub-grouping. Seriously. I'm in a fandom for which ship-wars alter no comprehend. HOW COOL IS THAT? Also it's just kind of flail-inducing to see a assort of populate who love each other so much even without the tin-hatting. It's impossible to not love them when you see them geeking out like a clump of boys and then cuddling up together and.. and... *wibble*2. They are on more crack than your mom. I love that I can say.
