"Cognis at In-Cosmetics India: well-being solutions for the Asian ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:22:26

For the modern consumer the concepts of well-being and performance are closely linked. They are looking for a holistic product experience for the products they buy from personal care to home care / I&I. At In-Cosmetics India in Mumbai. Cognis Care Chemicals and its active ingredients business Laboratoires Sérobiologiques exhibited a range of products and concepts designed to deliver a holistic product experience in line with the wellness trend. Among the ingredients and products on display were solubilizers emulsifiers surfactants thickener wax dispersions emollients polymers and active ingredients that enable manufacturers to meet new consumer demands. Today's consumers are looking for personal care products that give them a sense of well-being both during and after use. Cetiol® SenSoft the so-called "happy" emollient enables manufacturers to exactly meet the demand for a holistic sensorial product experience. Its effects have been verified using two unique testing methods. Cetiol SenSoft is highly compatible with commonly used raw materials and offers excellent hydrolytic stability good UV filter solubilizing power and powder-wetting properties. It is therefore suitable for a range of applications including face body and sun care products as well as decorative cosmetics and deodorants. Also featured at Cognis' booth was Cosmedia® SP a high-performance polymer for the skin care market. Available as an easy-to-handle pH-neutral powder it is a highly efficient emulsifier thickener and stabilizer. It also provides a very pleasant sensorial experience and gives formulators precise control over how their products feel on the skin. Cosmedia SP is ideal for use in low-viscosity light care products such as sprays and lotions and can be applied in richer higher-viscosity cream and gel formulations. Also presented were two acrylic homopolymers coming in liquid form - Cosmedia® CTH (E) which is cationic and Cosmedia® ATH which is anionic. They are designed to enhance the performance of skin and hair care formulations as well as improving their spreading characteristics. Exhibited additionally was Ultragel® 300 a cationic polymer in powderform which controls rheology in hair and skin care preparations. As well as being used in clear formulations the polymer has also become a popular choice of thickener for creams and lotions delivering a soft and silky skin feel. For many formulators of shampoo and body cleansing products viscosity adjustment is a challenge especially with the use of sulphate-free systems. Arlypon® TT is a high performance thickening agent designed for this purpose and difficult-to-thicken systems. It synergistically thickens due to its associative and micellar composition. Surfactant systems whether they are completely free of sulphates and betaines low active matter systems or blends of specific mild surfactants are tamed by Arlypon TT. The product is pumpable cold processable and preservative-free. Cognis also showcased Lamesoft® Care a power conditioning concept offering exceptional skin and hair conditioning effects. Its micronized lipid system delivers intensive conditioning effects for hair care concepts and excellent sensory properties in body wash products. As a unique performance wax. Lamesoft Care meets consumers' performance expectations without the use of silicones. Furthermore it provides shampoo and shower products with a luxurious and elegant pearl shine effect. The skin whitening market has steadily grown over the past few years. To meet this demand. Laboratoires Sérobiologiques (LS) has designed Actiwhite™ LS 9808 a tailor-made whitener with a demonstrated innovative pathway of melanin synthesis inhibition - linked to a decrease of tyrosinase activity in melanocytes and also to an inhibition of melanosome maturation - resulting in a significant whitening efficacy versus market benchmark while ensuring a perfect skin tolerance. Fitting with the trends towards natural well-being products. LS also showcased Marajo ScrubTM LS 9843 a 100 percent natural Amazonian native clay rich in mineral salts allowing gentle micro-exfoliation. It leaves the skin smooth and softens and restores its radiance as demonstrated in a clinical test. Marajo Scrub conforms to the Ecocert standard for ecological and organic cosmetics. Phytosoothe LS 9766 a compound of phytosterols from canola (rapeseed) and cetearyl alcohol for soothing and beautifying both the skin and hair was also displayed on LS's booth. Its ability to significantly reduce scalp irritations was demonstrated clinically in a rinse-off formulation. It is also suitable for sensitive skin applications including baby care and depilatories. In line with market demand for safer and more "natural" cosmetic ranges. LS presented Elestab™ PB Free LS 9842 a ready-to-use hydrosoluble paraben free preservative system. Available in liquid form it allows complete antimicrobial action spectrum ensuring perfectly protected cosmetic formulations the easy way. In the home care and I&I market consumers demand convenient products that offer increased cleaning power while also being fast and easy to use. Cognis presented Polyquart Ampho® 149 and Polyquart® PRO which are high performance additives for hard surface cleaners that provide enhanced shine streak-free cleaning less resoiling and spotless drying. Both products are compatible with all types of surfactants and can be used in cleaner formulations at a wide pH range. Also featured at the Cognis booth was Arlypon® VPC a multifunctional ingredient that functions as a thickener surfactant and solubilizer especially for highly acidic cleaner formulations. Arlypon VPC efficiently thickens cleaner formulations increasing the dwell time thus giving the acid more time to penetrate the soil and remove it. Moreover due to its functionality and easy handling the complexity of the manufacturing process can be reduced. Natural renewable raw materials combined with an outstanding ecological footprint are one of the keys to achieve success in the markets. Cognis APG® surfactants (Glucopon®. Plantaren® and Plantacare® brands) are obtained from renewable plant-derived raw materials such as coconut oil and starch. The Glucopon brands combine mildness to human skin environmental compatibility and pose no risk to human health yet still offer excellent cleaning performance in laundry detergents hard surface cleaners and manual dish detergents alike. Cognis Plantacare and Plantaren brands also show impressive performance in foaming cleaning and mildness in personal care products which make them widely accepted by formulators and ideal for mild shampoos bath and shower gel applications. Ingredients such as fragrances essential oils and vitamins also play an increasingly important role for consumers in the home and personal care industry e g for products related to the wellness trend delivering via a high level of aetheric oils a relaxing experience. However incorporating these ingredients into formulations requires highly effective solubilizers. Cognis offers a comprehensive range of those suitable for use in a wide variety of formulations including both clear liquids and milky products. While Eumulgin® L and Eumulgin® HPS perform well in water and water/ethanol systems. Eumulgin® ES. Eumulgin® HF 70 are specially designed for surfactant-based systems. Asia-Pacific is the second biggest personal and home care market behind Western Europe. According to a recent study by Kline & Company sales of cosmetics and toiletries in India grew by 12.6 percent in 2006. Young-Yull Kim. VP Sales & Marketing Cognis Care Chemicals Asia-Pacific comments: "Asia is one of the key markets for our future success and the Indian market in particular is growing very rapidly. "The business of green: My Burt's Bees prediction" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 21:53:27

Late last month. Clorox (makers of bleach amongst other things) (makers of "natural" personal care products) for nearly $100 million. A day or two later. . It's understandable. It's always sad to see a small independent producer gobbled up by a megacorporation. And populate wondered what will happen to the products? ordain they end up just as bad as all the other cram on the shelves? Here's what I think: Clorox won't dress much about the line. I'm not saying consumers shouldn't be vigilant -- we absolutely should act an eye on this situation. But evaluate about it: What would a company that mostly makes cleaning products want with a safer cosmetics line? What they be is a share of the eco-conscious marketplace. Clorox had over the course of a year and everyone knows it's good to have an environmental ace in the hole. There are two ways to go about that: green (or greenwash) your own products or pick up a new greener project. Since bleach would be um. Clorox went the other despatch. Making significant changes to Burt's product formulations could potentially baffle the entire go for Clorox. I could be do by but impression is that Burt's Bees users be to be very plugged into the "natural" community both online and off. If a new formulation of a products makes it into climb Deep and word gets out -- as it has a tendency to do -- Clorox loses it's overlap of the color market. Tom's of Maine makes for an illustrative example. Colgate bought the affiliate a while approve but a quick Skin Deep search shows that still tends to score better than. It'll be harder to make such comparisons with Clorox since as far as I know they don't own any other personal care products companies but I'll be surprised if Clorox doesn't go in Colgate's footsteps. Meanwhile. Burt hasn't been involved with his Bees since 1993 although his folksy face continues to alter the packaging. The company moved out of Maine ages ago and in 2003 the majority of the company was sold to a firm that exists solely to buy small companies increase their worth and sell them off to bigger corporations. They've managed to direct on to the small-company feel thus far and product formulations didn't change much although some critics point out that there's a lot more plastic packaging these days than there used to be. Of course many of those who hear the news ordain stop buying Burt's because they which I can understand. And. Clorox isn't exactly going to advertise its relationship with Burt's meaning some consumers may never even cognise just who they're supporting. "Why Condoms are the Latest Trend in Women's Personal Care Products" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 02:46:46

I agree with the bind. A woman who carries a condom with her is a savvy got it together type of woman. I laugh though at the little carrying cases that can be purchased for the condoms. Why would you pay extra money so you can carry them around in fashion? The make industry dictates far to many of our actions as it is. Put it in your round and keep it there until needed period. I agree with the article. A woman who carries a condom with her is a savvy got it together type of woman. I undergo to express emotion though at the suggestion of purchasing a carrying inspect for your condom. Put it in your purse until you be it period. The fashion industry dictates too many of our actions as it is. To much importance is put on condoms they don't protect you in so many ways but nobody ever mentions that. The numbers of kids with STDs are so high because even the teachers that teach sex education don't give them the full story. What about "I'm a work man and hungry so furnish me a crocodile sandwich and make it snappy"? followed by "hmmmm also furnish me a honey roll-over and lettuce on top"? Sorry. I'm drunk. But as a responsible member of our global society. I always remember to 'fasten up for safety'. Good article. I do not think it promotes or insinuates promiscuity. To the contrary it promotes responsibility and reality. If someone says it is not normal to have sex then they are just out of touch with reality. Condoms may not be 100% safe but other than completely abstaining they are the best bet. For those of you who advise complete abstaining until one is married consider this: the add up age for marriage in the US is around 27 years of age. The add up age for puberty is still around 14 years of age. That is a 13 year act. Possible for a few but not realistic for the overwhelming majority. This article is trying to give women the confidence to do what is prudent without stigmatizing them. As a male. I like their suggestions. I suggested the same for my daughter who is happily married today with child and practices medicine. The trend does create an opportunity within the promotional marketing arena for custom imprinted condoms. Bars nightclubs salons tobacco companies any company that wants to market to women and cares about what women care about should consider custom imprinted condoms. As for those who be down on a woman for carrying a condom. I ask. "Do you also look at men who carry a condom the same way?" I say let's let personal choices be personal. And condoms for those who choose to go that route are personally responsible. The trend does create an opportunity within the promotional marketing arena for custom imprinted condoms. - Someone here had a great idea of including them in specially marked cases of beer. hi guys nice discussion.. but do you love to try something new? you will be surprised... I am a hot girl shy at first but friends say I am witty humerous and fun to be around. I am very easy going and enjoy all types of music food and entertainment. It would be great to meet someone to spend time with on a regular basis and enjoy each other's company. – What a cozy feeling it is to cuddle up at a campfire roast marshmallows and comprehend to an often outlandish tale. Maybe it's spooky maybe a fantasy; whatever the story it is usually one that captivates those seated…

"Cancer-Causing Ingredients in Your Cosmetics and Personal Care ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 22:57:24

By Christine Farlow Cosmetics alter you attractive but some of the ingredients in your cosmetics and personal care products may be killing you! If youre desire most Americans you may be unknowingly poisoning yourself and your family everyday with the many cancer-causing ingredients in todays cosmetics toiletries and personal care products. Makeup lave hair coloring products baby disintegrate (Yes do by powder!) shaving cream mouthwash and toothpaste are just a few of the products that contain cancer-causing ingredients. But dont despair! In just a minute youll experience what products to avoid and how to choose those that are safe for you and your family. You may be asking yourself. “Why do I have to check the ingredients to see if theyre safe? Doesnt the government do this?” The answer is: Well kind of… but not really! The truth is the cosmetics industry is very poorly regulated. With the exception of a handful of extremely toxic chemicals manufacturers can put almost anything in their cosmetics without testing to see if the ingredients are harmful. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can only make suggestions or recommendations to manufacturers about cosmetic products or their ingredients but the manufacturers dont undergo to go them. To alter matters worse most products are labeled to “sell” rather than to provide accurate information. Words desire “natural” and “hypoallergenic” (which furnish us a nice warm feeling about the product and act upon us to accept that a product is safe) do not have official definitions. This means the manufacturers can use them to convey anything they want and not get in trouble with the regulatory agencies. This often leads to misleading information on the label…and more sales. Heres a rogues list of ingredients in cosmetics toiletries and personal care products you should forbid: Fragrances. Each fragrance can have up to 600 different ingredients which are not required to be listed on the label. Even if youre not sensitive to fragrances its wise to avoid them because they often have hazardous ingredients and theres no way of knowing if they do. Preservatives. Many preservatives include or channel formaldehyde which is a carcinogen neurotoxin irritant and sensitizer. These include DMDM hydantoin. Imidazolidinyl urea. Diazolidinyl urea quaternium 15 sodium hydroxymethylglycinate and bronopol (2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol). Other preservatives that may also create reactions include the parabens methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone. powder. It may contain carcinogenic contaminants and products containing talc including baby powder should never be used on babies and children. Artificial colors. Many of them cause cancer. Most of the D&C and FD&C colors are derived create coal tar a known cancer-causing agent. Silica. By itself silica is not harmful but its often contaminated with crystalline silica which causes cancer. Manufacturers are not required to enumerate contaminants so youll never see it on the denominate. How big of a threat are contaminants to you and your family? From 1978 to 1980 the FDA analyzed 300 cosmetic samples for carcinogenic contamination. Forty percent of the samples analyzed contained carcinogens. Things actually got worse the next time they analyzed cosmetic samples. In 1991-92 they found that 65% of the cosmetic products sampled contained carcinogenic contaminants. Most recently in 2004 the Environmental Working Group evaluated 7,500 personal care products for safety. They found that “nearly 70% of all products contain ingredients that can be contaminated with impurities linked to cancer and other health problems.” Polysorbate 60 or 80 polyoxyethylene polyethylene polyethylene glycol. PEG anything ending in “-eth,” such as sodium laureth sulfate. These ingredients may be contaminated with cancer-causing 1,4-dioxane which is easily absorbed through the climb. Again manufacturers are not required to tell you about the contaminants. Diethanolamine (DEA) and triethanolamine (TEA). These two ingredients are open in many cosmetic and personal care products. change surface though they dont create cancer by themselves you should avoid all products that contain them because DEA and TEA can act with nitrites to form nitrosamines which can create cancer. The tricky thing is that nitrites can be present as a contaminant and not listed on the label. So theres no way of knowing whether or not a product with DEA or TEA ingredients is contaminated with the cancer-causing nitrosamines. Propylene glycol and sodium lauryl sulfate. These are common ingredients in shampoos and theyre both toxic. Propylene glycol is a skin irritant which causes kidney and liver damage. Sodium laurel convert causes genetic damage. So whats the furnish lie? Even though a great many cosmetics and personal care products are harmful there are products that are safe and healthy to use. But youre the one who needs to know what cosmetic and personal care products you’re using are safe. The way the current regulations are structured the government simply cannot protect you. Their hands are tied. According to John Bailey. Ph. D. director of the FDAs Office of Cosmetics and Colors. “Consumers accept that ‘if its on the merchandise it can’t cause to be perceived me,’ and this belief is sometimes wrong.” Knowing how to construe and interpret the ingredient label on cosmetics toiletries and personal care products is a powerful protect. But the manufacturers are fighting back. Theyre designing packaging with seductive designs to alter it look desire their products are healthy and made from natural ingredients. Dont be fooled by the conceive of packaging and persuasive words desire “natural,” “calm” and “hypoallergenic.” When you read the label youll probably sight that is not the inspect. As you might guess there are more ingredients that can injure you. But if you start avoiding products with the above ingredients you may sight that you and your family conclude exceed and more energetic allergic reactions may cease and your risk for cancer ordain most definitely be decreased. Christine H. Farlow. D. C is the author of Dying To Look Good which classifies over 1300 commonly used ingredients according to safety and lists over 750 “safe” products with resources where to buy. "Finally, Baby Skin Care Products Safe for Baby!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 19:33:26

It’s sad to say but a skincare product can undergo less than 1% natural ingredients and still put NATURAL on the denominate! It can change surface have just ONE ingredient that is natural and still use NATURAL on the denominate! More and more parents are beginning to look for products for their children and their families that are “Natural,” remove of unhealthy and dangerous chemicals and additives. But just how “natural” are those products really? began when Adena Surabian’s baby daughter developed a rash that no doctor could cure. Unfortunately she experienced first hand what happens to a baby when baby products contain untested chemicals irritating ingredients and change surface toxins. Both of her daughters suffered from allergies rashes eczema or skin irritations caused or worsened by the chemicals in many child and baby products. Armed only with an armful of suspicious products and a computer. Adena discovered both the create of her baby’s rash and how dangerous baby products really can be. She open the only “aid” was the elimination of many of the products she like most mothers assumed were safe. When she searched for products that were gentle effective and safe she was discouraged by what she open. No products that were safe left her babies’ climb soft. Shampoos that didn’t contain harmful chemicals left their hair coarse and filled with static electricity. Chemical-free diaper creams didn’t really prevent rashes. In this case necessity really was the “care” of invention. And so was born. Adena developed an entire product lie of calm effective and safe skin and hair care products for her babies - and for yours. Many of the chemicals you sight in do by products give color fragrance and a certain “feel” to the product. Some are preservatives; others are enhancers that help the product come in the skin. However most haven’t been tested for safety haven’t been evaluated for long-term exposure and many are used in products like degreasers and anti-freeze. Over the last 50 years the number of synthetic ingredients and petroleum-based products in our lotions and potions has increased by leaps and bounds. Unfortunately no one knows how safe they are and what their long term effects will be on our bodies - or even on the environment. While these ingredients are cheaper and easier to use in manufacturing they are potentially more dangerous. The ingredients used by are safer but more expensive because they use only the purest forms from the most reliable suppliers. The ingredients they decide are 100% botanical most with a long history of safe and effective use. Other products use chemical preservatives so bottles of shampoo conditioner and lotion can sit on the shelf for an indefinite period of measure. won’t put those kinds of chemicals on a baby’s skin or hair. Instead they use advances in packaging and botanically based preservatives that are food-grade or so safe you could eat them. With all the different products you put on your child’s skin every day shouldn’t they all be safe? On any given day you might shampoo her hair wash her body dampen her skin protect her with sunscreen and heal her bottom with diaper cream. In one 24-hour period you could apply an extraordinary chemical brew of dangerous ingredients to your child. ON add up. populate apply 126 unique ingredients to their skin EVERY DAY. How safe are they? Who knows? The government doesn’t require health studies before products are sold. Nor does it require pre-market testing. So no one is watching out for you and your baby. Just what kind of ingredients are in the shampoos conditioners soaps be washes cosmetics etc that we use? A not-for-profit organization called the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has spent the measure five years researching that industry for safety. Here is what they open: –Industrial chemicals are basic ingredients in personal care products. The 10,500 unique chemical ingredients in these products consider to about one of every seven of the 75,000 chemicals registered for use in the U. S. Personal care products contain carcinogens pesticides reproductive toxins endocrine disruptors plasticizers degreasers and surfactants. They are the chemical industry in a store. –No premarket safety testing is required — this is a reality of both the personal care product industry and the broader chemical industry as a whole. For industrial chemicals the government approves an add up of seven new chemicals every day. Eighty percent are approved in three weeks or less with or without safety tests.
