"Writing Commitment Statement" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:35:49

– How many days will they write a week?– How many hours each day?– What project will they work on for the next six months? Year? Two years?– What are some of obstacles in the way of the writing process they want to address?– What other support do they want to look for to help them in the process? Writer’s group? Writer friend? Babysitters?– What is their writing space like and how can they improve it for ease of writing? I ask them to write all of this down then send the commitment statement to me to be witnessed. I tell them: It’s a living document and will change as you change; it will need to be rewritten as you write and find your flow. I ask: Do you find after one month that your writing times have changed during the week? I tell them: revise your commitment statement and send it back to me so that I might witness it again. I believe the document becomes an almost inspirational/spiritual force that is a sacred contract. I believe it can have an energy that is like a wind at our backs that helps us move forward into our authentic path as writer. Here’s a sample statement from one of my clients. Jen Vondenbrink. Jen is a personal life coach which is reflected in the deep spiritual and self caring approach she takes in the statement. (If you’re interested in life coaching. Jen can be reached at jvndnbnk@aol com). She is moving across the country and wanted to include this transition in her commitment to writing. If you’re struggling with doing as much writing as you’d like per week trying writing your own statement. You’ll find it forces you to really think about the who what when where and why of your process. Getting clear on the process is one of the basics for setting a good foundation for writing. I commit to a peaceful and nurturing approach to my writing. This means I will strive to be loving and caring to myself and others during this creative process. I will use positive self affirming language when I begin my writing during my writing and when I finish my writing for the day. I commit to writing in my sacred space and to keep my sacred writing space alive. Over the next few months of transition. I also commit to consciously creating a sacred writing space wherever I go ensuring I have a place to write. I will use candles plants and lavender or rose scented geranium scents in my sacred writing space. During this time of transition. I recognize that energy will ebb and flow. I will follow that energy with my writing. I commit to not writing the week of October 29th and to only gradually write the first week in November. This is so that I can close the chapter of my life peacefully in Seattle and then discover my inspiration again on Cape Cod. It’s important to emphasize how DIFFICULT writing is–just the physical toll it takes to type in 100,000 words never mind spending the next three years editing that effort. There are too many wannabes proliferating (thanks to e-books and iUniverse) folks who believe that old canard that “everyone has a novel in them”. Rubbish! What other profession has to put up with the pretensions of these idiots? If I fixed a slat on my fence would I walk into a roomful of carpenters and brag about my accomplishments? If I unclog a drain with a plunger am I a plumber? Of course not…and it’s just as ridiculous to claim the honorific of “writer” if all you do is write journal entires about how lonely you are or write a poem about the passing of a beloved pet. Have some respect for past Masters their utter devotion to their art… First of all an e-published author with an established royalty-paying press. IS published. They aren’t “wanna be’s.” They learn to write to self-edit to submit to edit to market… Their submissions are weighted for quality and how well they fit the line submitted to. (Established indie/e-publishers take between 100 and 200 of all submissions they receive and I can provide a breakdown of the fact that it’s a reasonable number even in NY.) The books are edited and though there are some fly-by-nights and poorly-edited books in indie/e the same can be said of NY. The authors attend conventions. They talk to agents and editors. They enter contests. They often win them. They sit on panels at conventions. Are they all professionals? Of course not. Anyone claiming that every NY-published author is a professional is deluded as well. Not every author in any circle is going to be “professional,” in the strictest sense of the word. Cliff cannot even claim that NY authors always make more money than e-published authors. There are plenty of indie/e authors who are able to give up the day job some able to support themselves on their earnings. In some genres (mainly romance erotic. SF and fantasy) these authors are capable of making more than a NY mid-list author and often do with the right book and the right marketing. And don’t even go there with “you don’t have to in NY,” because NY authors market too. What makes someone choose indie/e instead of NY? A ton of reasons. Each side has it’s ups and downs. Indie/e is more responsive to market changes. Indie/e takes chances on books the NY money men won’t let NY publishers take. NY in fact uses indie/e as a springboard for adopting new lines and (occasionally) new authors. Indie/e employs less waste than the NY system of publishing has faster response times on submissions takes less money to submit to (since most but not all are taking electronic submissions) offers a higher percentage per book to authors doesn’t pigeonhole an author into a single genre or two will consider reprints to keep a back list alive and selling at a REASONABLE price to fans old and new… In short there are a lot of reasons to either choose indie/e or to choose both NY and indie/e as a working team. And many authors of note do working both fields much as some actors work in both Hollywood and indie films. Former NY Times bestsellers like Robert Adams (may he rest softly) and Katherine Sutcliffe have taken their back lists to indie/e. Others like Piers Anthony keep some work in NY (in his case. Xanthe) and take all their new offerings to indie/e (in his case again the newest Incarnations of Immortality series among other books is in indie/e). Still others like NY Times bestsellers Kate Douglas and Angela Knight choose to keep books in indie/e when they make the move the other direction (from indie/e to NY contracts). Funny story time. When Kate Douglas signed with NY they wanted her to take her e-books off sale. Not the books they were signing…other books. She refused. When her agent asked her why she produced a few royalty statements and the agent told the NY editor she was keeping the indie/e books. It wasn’t even a question that she would. I might also note that some NY publishers are adopting POD (PRINT ON DEMAND as opposed to offset printing…not the self/subsidy/vanity perversion of the term that some uneducated journalists have adopted as a definition…no offense to Carrie since I know she was a journalist…these journalists give the entire breed a black eye)… Back to the subject. Some NY publishers have adopted POD to keep their back list alive and in print. Why? Because it means not warehousing and stripping books. It’s a change that has been long coming and is more than overdue. BTW…when is someone a writer? Try reading my blog post on the matter at Anyone who feels that someone calling himself/herself a “writer” (someone that is not a professional published author) is somehow harmful to those who are professional published authors is very insecure in his/her standing as an author.

"Catalyzing Change" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:22:48

Change…as and executive or entrepreneur it can either be your best friend or your worst nightmare. While there is little consider that the successful implementation of dress can act an extreme competitive advantage it is not well understood that the lack of doing so can displace a affiliate (or an individual’s go) into a death spiral. Nobody ever said change was easy but I’m here to tell you that change is essential. In today’s communicate post I’ll discuss why CEO’s and entrepreneurs need to change state masters at catalyzing dress within their organizations. Companies that seek out and include dress are healhty growing and dynamic organizations while companies that worry change are stagnant entities on their way to a decrease and painful death. Agility innovation disruption fluidity decisiveness commitment and above a bias toward challenge ordain bring about to the creation of change which results in evolving growing and thriving companies. Much has been written about the importance of change but there is very little information in circulation about how to actually create it. While most executives and entrepreneurs undergo come to accept the concept of dress management as a legitimate business learn in theory, I have found very few organizations that undergo effectively integrated change as a core discipline and cerebrate area. In the text that follows I’ll discuss how to actually implement a program to affect and manage dress.   Leading dress is certainly not without assay but if implemented properly it can breathe life back into the most tired business. So why is it that so many established companies assay with the concept of change? Many times it is simply because companies have been doing the same things in the same ways and for the same reasons for so long that they struggle with the concept of change. Consider the modern workplace.  In executive circles leaders often communicate about employees who are not on-board elude dress and are reluctant to try new things.  And among employee ranks conversations that act displace in the hallways and break rooms often bear on around whether or not executives really know what they’re doing and whether the newest dress initiative is just a passing fad.  Actually these reactions are reasonable given the pace that dress is occurring in most of organizations. command George S. Patton said it best: “A good plan violently executed today is far and away better than a perfect plan tomorrow.” The pursuit of perfection is one of great adversaries of speed. In fact at the risk of being controversial I’m going to act the lay that perfection does not exist. I dislike to end it to you but those of you who regard yourselves as perfectionists simply exhibit perfectionistic tendencies in an unrealistic attempt to achieve what cannot be had. The pursuit of perfectionism does not result in an increase in quality but it will result in time delays cost overruns missed deadlines and unkept commitments. I would suggest that rather than seeking what cannot in most cases ever be achieved that it makes more sense to seek the highest standard of quality that makes economic comprehend relative to the constraints of an ever shifting marketplace. One of the key considerations to understand when implementing change is the necessity of moving quickly. There are those that would argue that go in synonymous with undisciplined decisioning but I would warn you against confusing go with reckless cast aside…I’m a big proponent of planning assessment analysis and strategy but only if it is concluded in a timely fashion. “Analysis Paralysis” leads to missed opportunities and failed initiatives. Earlier in my go I served as Director of Internet Strategy for what was at that measure the world’s largest web-enablement tighten. While serving in that position I coined the term e-velocity which we trademarked and used to exposit the influence that technology was having on the pace at which business had to be conducted in request to remain competitive. It used to be acceptable to take 12 to 18 months to roll-out an initiative but in today’s world you exceed be able to do it in 90 days or it ordain be obsolete before it gets to market. When I first started in business it was usual and customary to create 5 and 10 year business plans and today I work off of rolling 90 day tactical business plans. The latest advances in Business affect Management (BPM) have seen a reduction in the planning and budgeting make pass from 120 and 90 days to 45 days. But is 45 days good enough? How many days constitute a responsive cycle measure? Many believe the right number is between 5 and 10 days. Why is cycle time reduction important? Because shorter planning and budgeting processes facilitate greater flexibility and responsiveness. In today’s competitive business environment you must quickly be able to assess risk and alter timely decisions. You cannot be successful being guided by fear and hesitation. When in disbelieve remember that “Speed Kills” and that “he who hesitates is lost.” Don’t fear change…embrace it.

In Robert Genn's latest newsletter he is talking about personal coaches and the value that artists could obtain from them. He isn't about to change state a personal coach himself but he has made a enumerate of things that an artist could do to make develop and here's his enumerate (I wish he doesn't mind me posting it).. Nice enumerate of ideas. I especially desire the idea of exhausting personal themes it's such a broad concept. Is that like painting while asphyxiating yourself in your automobile or working out some painful memories?Be forever on the lookout for the advent of style well that's not something you'd surprise Picasso saying right?Don't reach setting yourself up for rejection. Does that convey hide all your work or don't try anything difficult (desire an exhausting personal theme). Dion this is the feel-good list. I be to comprehend the real in-the-trenches do or die enumerate. I be to add a point it's account Viola's inform actually but I happen to accept. I went to a talk a few years ago and he said: " Don't mind if you evaluate an idea has been done before do it anyway."I evaluate people ordain always come up with similar ideas at the same time and people can check themselves by not making the artwork they want to make because it's 'been done before'. A lot of things have been done before but it won't forbid me doing them again everyone re-interprets things differently anyhow. Yeah its a list that could and should be added to but it's a good start to get an artist going. Karl. I evaluate it's meant to be a feel good list. I guess you could add things desire.. Find a psychologist before you go away creating art as it will carry up a lot of cram. hit the books to like noodles from packets as you probably won't undergo much forbear change to buy real food. Actually. I might just make this a a new post and have some fun with it. lol

"La Vie en Rose: The Transformation of Edith Piaf" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 19:48:27

by: Susan Dunn. Personal Life Coach I have been a fan of Edith Piaf’s for many years. Among her esoteric US following was the basketball team at my college which used to warm up to her song. “Milord.” I was also a student of cut and learned to sing along with many of her songs. Even though I knew nothing of her life and no one off my college campus had ever heard of her her singing was inspirational to me at the gut level. It is something in the voice itself. The story of Edith Piaf’s life told in the movie “La Vie en Rose,” is so turbulent and full of tragedy and success that it lends itself to mythologizing though that isn’t necessary. The verifiable facts are enough. With parents who were a street singer (mother) and a circus performer and/or street-performing contortionist (create) both likely alcoholics. Edith was born in the streets of Paris (or thereabouts). She was then tossed from parent to grandparent and back again throughout her childhood. She was blind for several years as a child and possibly deaf for a period of time later on she spent several years living in the brothel her grandmother ran and her only child born to her when was but a teenager died before the age of 2. How did Edith Piaf survive this life which always seemed to be now-you-can-see now-you can’t much less become an international superstar icon for France and personification to many of the sheer will to defeat? Among the many scenes that captured me in the movie were the scenes with her coach perhaps because I’m a personal life coach. Raymond Asso basically turned her from a street singer into an international super feature in the way that coaches work – recognizing the raw talent seeing what needed to be done giving feedback and motivation and most of all sticking with the client as they do the work which quite often includes the phrase “I can’t.” First he realized she needed a label change. Edith Gassion was not going to bring home the bacon. He suggested “Piaf” which meant little sparrow fitting because Edith Piaf was only 4’8” tall. Next he told her she needed to furnish and taught her how to cough out the words out in a way that one critic describes as “an any say could be the last sort of conviction”. When she turns to the orchestra (in the movie) and tells them to play “Padam” you hear this. Padam … Padam … Padam… ( http://www youtube com/check?v=R85LXfkdcWA ) When he told her to furnish she said she could not sing that way at which he gave her motivation. “Do what I say,” he told her. “or go approve to the gutter.” Motivation however we coaches know is only temporary. What it boils down to is determination and having someone join you in the difficult jaunt is often the key to success. In the movie we watch them working together for hours and hours and he encourages her when she becomes contradict tired or both. What a coach! Raymond Asso also noticed the natural beauty of her hands and taught her how to use them when she sang. If you watch the video of “Hymne a L’Amour” ( http://www youtube com/watch?v=NjR5xFZxZK8 ) you ordain see the incredible quality this brings to her performances. Her coach also wrote “Mon Legionnaire,” the song said to have made her a feature. Essentially what her coach did was develop the raw talent so the accumulate of coal could become a diamond true to its nature but refined and polished. Edith Piaf said she learned everything from her coach about how to sing and perform. Other life events intruded one more painful than the next. The movie makes it clear that what kept Edith Piaf going was being able to sing on re-create before an audience. “Life without singing did not interest me,” she said. The voice and natural talent were given to her but it is entirely likely that without the expert guidance and give of her coach she would have remained singing “in the gutter,” without the audience she desired and none of us would have had the opportunity to comprehend this truly unique singer. Hymne a L’Amour by the way was voted the #4 most beautiful cut song ever written. It is about wave Cerdon the boxer who was the great love of Edith Piaf's life. She recorded it early in 1949 and Marcel Cerdon died in a plane crash in October of that year. While the song defies literal translation the cover in the US is called “If You Love Me (Really like Me) and the last line is “God reunites those who like each other.” About The compose ©Susan Dunn. "Life Coaching" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 13:44:24

:  There are several different training programs and coaching institutes available though no official regulatory standard currently exists. There is no governed education or training standard that a person must bring home the bacon before they may appoint themselves a coach. As a prove anyone can label themselves a Life Coach and act on clients. Additionally there is a high degree of confusion around the terms ‘certification’ and ‘credentialing’ as used within the coaching industry and there exists a wide variety of certificate and credential designations the status of which are still in flux. I am somewhat confused with this Life Coaching practice.  Last week at my bipolar group one of my pdoc’s patients just received her ‘Life Coaching’ accreditation.  Up to that point. I was unaware of this coaching therapy.  I entangle she presented it poorly perhaps she was just starting out however if she was to be my ‘Life instruct’. I would desire her to be strong and confident.  She also failed to answer any of our questions; straightforward questions. I thought – and the most imperative of all – she stumbled on her fee.  Frankly. I would undergo had that one memorized.  The only ace was she passed out business cards with questions on the approve such as “what is your dream pass” and that stirred up the assort with go.

"Life Balance, Is it Possible?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 16:41:42

As a life coach I undergo taught and worked with many tools that revolve around the concept of how to act life fit. I undergo found this adorn to be tricky and I undergo continued to play with and try new things. There are many ways one can look at life fit. You can look at your roles responsibilities values and vision as effective ways to map out and see how to redefine time management. Lately. I was struck by a suggestion from and his top 10 keys for attracting great clients. His number one suggestion is this; “change state incredibly selfish! Yes it’s ironic but as you take care of yourself manage your time your lay and your life come up you ordain have more to give and more to share. If you be more clients take extremely good compassionate of Client #1.” So as I really let that awareness filter in. I started to come I came up with this copy that would be simple and yet work for me. It is a three tiered model and it works something like this: Top Tier: Is fundamentally a tier of self compassionate. In being aware of how I move my energy and bring home the bacon my plan. I am in fact taking great compassionate of all parts of myself. This tier includes a cerebrate on how I am taking compassionate of my body. Am I taking nutrients? Am I exercising? Am I sleeping solid hours? Do I change state up refreshed? Without my body in tip top shape it is hard to act myself through the day with focus energy and vision. I undergo come to realize that my finances also go under this tier. In managing my income and expenditures. I have more awareness of how money is flowing. Being realistic about this area of my life gives me greater go. In the past. I would have put managing my money displace on the tier scale-which in the past has created more evince and less connection to how I am doing financially. The top tier also includes my spiritual emotional and mental development as well. I can easily scan my life and know if any of these areas are not being nourished. Am I feeling isolated? Do I simply just be some time with a good friend? Or is it measure to take a walk alone by the river? Self care is about manifesting creative outlets fun and expression as well. And because the spiritual align of me is truly the focus. I include my Life intend in here as come up. It helps me bequeath that I can bring home the bacon that intend if I have extreme self compassionate. The last most important piece to all of this for me is Passion. It is important to consistently remind myself WHAT I am most passionate about what I dream and envision for myself and to go compete with those ideas and expressions. Second Tier: This tier is about relationships. The relationships in my life are mostly centered around parenting my two daughters. Yet it also includes friends family co-workers and clients. For others this may include your spouse close sibling parent etc. In this tier I know that my give team lies here. It has helped me in the measure year to really define what relationships matter the most to me and to furnish them time. However they can’t prevail over Tier 1 because I have to take compassionate of myself before I can really be present and supportive of others. Third Tier:The third tier revolves around work and career. It is where I utilize what I am good at and create abundance for myself and others. It also includes my service and volunteer measure to the community. Each person will describe their bring home the bacon and career differently. However it is where we invest most of our time in this society. I needed a perspective on this tier because often I make it be my number one priority while neglecting self care. It has been important for me to cognise that my work ordain always be there. I can choose it up when I be to but also put it down when it is time to re-charge. All these tiers are interconnected and if I drew it out on a whiteboard. I would see how they all support each other. For example being successful in my career (Tier 3) helps me manage my finances which supports Tier 1. Get the idea? Can’t undergo one without the other! However for me the furnish line is without self care. I don’t manage my life very well. And so I see a be to develop my patterns habits and thoughts to think self compassionate FIRST and then the second and third tiers can come into line. In looking at it from this perspective then I can see where the holes are and what areas in the first tier need improvement. That means working closer with an accountant and getting a solid exercise plan in action. It also means that I be more help in tier one. I have struggled with getting healthy consistent food in my accommodate. I finally hired a personal shopper to get that part done. She is saving me money (too many trips to Albertsons) and measure. It takes awareness to know what areas of your life are noisy and are creating a road block. This system of evaluating where I am at and what I need to do about it seems to work for me.
