"A Life that Matters. About 8 or 9 years ago, I did something that ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:31:22

I'm Leonard Koh. A graphic designer by profession and engaged to the lovely Cassilda. I'm privileged to serve as Coordinator at Amplify Ministries where my role is about leading young people into a growing relationship with Jesus. My passion is helping youth ministry flourish in the Catholic Church. A Life that Matters. About 8 or 9 years ago. I did something that has ever since changed or rather directed the course of my life - I wrote my personal Mission Statement. After reading "The Success Journey" by John Maxwell. I decided that I wanted to live a life that mattered. After you only get one shot at life - might as well make the very best out of it. One of the most intriguing advice from the book was the practice of writing my personal mission statement. Till then. I haven't met anyone who had a personal mission statement. I know many companies and ministries that have one. (Amplify's one is "We exist to spread a passion for Jesus Christ and a love for the church to every young person) But the idea of writing one for myself was new. But I realised that the idea of writing a mission statement is simply saying 'This is how I am going to spend my life." Time is like money. Imagine if I gave you a bag of 1 dollar coins and say this is all you have for the rest of your life how will you spend it? Won't you be very careful and focused in what you spend it on?Similarly. Life is like that. God gave us our life and said. "You have X amount of time to be alive. Thats all you will get. How are you going to spend it?"Here's a quote explaining what a mission statement is: Mission statements represent your belief system—the priorities values and principles that measure your decisions. It provides overall direction and clarifies your purpose and meaning. When you clearly know what you want to be and to do in your life you feel strong in your sense of mission. You’re no longer driven by everything that happens to you. Rather you feel a deep and complete commitment to following your innermost values. And you’re excited by it! People sense your strength and direction—you become a powerful positive decision maker—in your professional and personal lives. Life's CompassI found above quote just a few days ago only while preparing for this entry and it is so true loh. My mission statement has been like my life's compass as I trek through life's jungle all the twist and turns valley's and heights storms and dry lands. As long as I know where the north point of my life is. I just keep heading towards that direction. And somehow not only do I live life with greater confidence and purpose it seem to give confidence to the people around me - just by knowing what I want to do with my life. I think there are two kinds of people in the world those who allow life to take them and those who take life. The former simply follow the system whatever society has marked out and prefabricated. They go wherever life takes them. The latter however determine how they want their life to be like and go for it. And to the person who knows where he is going the world makes way. I really believe that in everybody there is a deep longing and a cry that says 'I WANT TO LIVE!'. To move beyond mere existence and to the kind of life that joins in with what God is doing in this world to fully live out the mission by which we have been crafted and created for. Jesus knew his mission his purpose. He didn't try to do everything. He just did what He had come to do - save us from our sins. Which is why on the cross before he took his last breath he said. 'It is accomplished.' (.. my mission)Jesus didn't live 1 minute pass the moment He completed his mission. And I think that's the way we should live - die when we complete our mission. A Mission statement brings that into focus for me what I'm called to do. Its not everything of course but it does help me to keep whats most important most important. My personal mission statement can be found on the left hand column of this page. The next entry I will try to recall how I crafted it. Perhaps it will inspire you to start thinking about writing one for yourself cheers,Leo

measure year. I was running at full go; chasing after my dream of money and ‘success’. However. I had forgotten why I was running. Luckily. I met Jim (not his real name). Jim had achieved all the financial goals I was reaching for. He had financial independence several successful businesses homes in multiple countries and the luxury to afford the finest things money could buy. Through hard work persistence and turn action; he had made it! But. Jim was not happy. He did not have the free time to enjoy his wealth. He wanted a family. He wanted peace. He wanted to live his life… but he was not able to. He had too many responsibilities too much to lose and too many things to protect. He had spent years building his go and now that it is complete he is spending his time keeping it from eroding. Getting to know Jim was a life altering and eye opening experience. His words snapped me out of my state of ‘unconsciousness’. Regardless of how much money I could change if the go did not reorient with where I wanted to be then I would not pursue it. Here is my personal mission statement: I plan to be financially independent and have control of my measure and location. I intend to work only on projects and causes that I connect with. I plan to acquire my finances without violating my values goals and personal mission. 5. Who inspires you most? (Anyone you know or do not know. "Stephen R. Coveys The 7 Habits (3/8): Begin with the End in Mind" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 23:04:34

's «The 7 Habits of Highly Effective populate» isn't a quick construe. It doesn't want to be either. For Covey success is based on habitual formation of the engrave - comparable to the cycle of sowing and harvesting and about as time-consuming. In this eight-part series. I'm going to show the key concepts of the schedule and what I've learned from them. This is Part 3 of the series. [Note: If you come about to be a follower of 's Getting Things Done (GTD) the chapter discussed in this posting will show you an interesting approach to defining goals in your life from the 50,000 feet perspective. If you're more interested in the lower levels this posting probably isn't for you.] &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt; It is easier to learn management than to learn leadership. Leadership is about developing an inner compass whereas management is about going into the direction suggested by that accomplish. Leadership is about being effective (knowing and reaching your goals at all) management is about reaching your goals as efficiently as possible. Among other examples. Covey uses the ladder analogy: leadership must cause against which protect to bend a break; management is then about climbing up as efficiently as possible. If the ladder is leaning against the do by protect even excellent management is move to arrive at disappointment. Before the physical creation of success (management) there must be the mental creation. Everything is created twice: first in the mind and back up in reality. Beginning with the end in object means to do the first creation well to develop a leadership habit. Leadership is harder to hit the books than management because it is harder to discover your own bear on instead of simply centering oneself the agenda of others bowing in to «circumstances» or overcoming old habits. Your center is where your security guidance wisdom and power move from. Bogus centers tie your life-support factors of security guidance wisdom and power to external things and events and thus move you over to manipulative forces. Examples of bogus centers are Some of these centers of life look quite common and innocent. What's wrong e g with centering your life around your family? Covey says it introduces a strong dependency. If our sense of emotional worth comes primarily from family traditions family culture or family reputation our feeling of security depends on that and is threatened by the same things too. You don't change surface need to believe mafia-style family bonds to see why wisdom and good guidance don't necessarily flow from family traditions. Finally: when you happen to be separated from your family for a while where does your power come from? Similar conclusions bear on to the other bogus centers as come up. Your center should instead be based on principles and Covey shows a way how to find and be your own bear on. It starts with becoming aware of the roles you play in life of the responsibilities and the goals related to them: father or mother neighbor professional roles and so on. As a thought experiment. Covey suggests that you create by mental act your own funeral ceremony. create by mental act the populate attending it. They undergo go to know you as somebody who fulfills one or more roles in their lives. What do you want them to say about you in the end? About your character your contributions your achievements? create verbally your own eulogy. Use your imagination to get in touch with your values. evaluate broadly about your roles. Wherever you repeatedly be various people a role can be detected. anticipate you'd only have one more year to live. Imagine things like wedding anniversaries retirement scenarios and other milestones in life and you'll find change surface more to think about: what would you desire to be able to say about yourself by then? The resulting personal mission statement ordain be the compose you wrote for your life superseding any other scripts that you've go to accept so far be it from your parents environment genetics or from society. When you be to evaluate about your goals and purpose in life it's helpful to widen your perspective by thinking in roles. Covey somewhat overstretched it though: he suggests that you extend this approach to your family and to whole companies. It's quite common e g to create verbally down mission statements for companies but they're hardly effective. I'm neither convinced that two or more populate really understand a shared mission statement in the exact same way nor that they go its path over a longer measure. &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt; Thanks! I missed your bind in April (actually. I was comfort work setting up the Evomend server then…). What I liked beat in it was: "How much you choose to actively monitor your roles & responsibilities can be a mixture of necessity and desire." Maybe it feels a bit odd to be "bound" by "roles" for lifetime. As children and parents we are of cover. Anyway if I understood Covey alter he uses roles as kind of a tool a perspective on life. I accept that since I'm always a bit puzzled whenever I get asked about my "goals in life". Roles as perspectives can inform us of important things that might otherwise flee our attention. In contrast. Tim Ferriss (of 4-Hour Workweek fame) solves the same problem by telling us not to ponder about goals or change surface happiness but to simply ask ourselves what gets us excited; this way our say may be more straightforward and honest and less theoretical. I've found that both approaches lead me to similar conclusions.

I believe it’s important for you to develop a mission statement for your life; one that is unique and articulates your values goals dreams; how you be to live. Your mission statement is a living breathing testimony of the life you are committed to living. It is also a way to pull yourself back from the darkness when you are feeling lost in the minutiae of misery. I read my mission statement every morning and it grounds me and reminds me what is important and how I want to be that day. Thus in request To be. To LEARN. To LOVE and To LEAVE A MEANINGFUL LEGACY. I. GALVIN SNG will – be A Joyful and Contented Life in Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. Philippians 4:12-13). Through life's ups or downs happy or sad moments. I seek to live in the light of God's mercy and grace that He has lavished on me. Especially in times when I simply cannot see His plans. I will bequeath once again the love that He has furnish me demonstrated on the cross of Calvary through His Son Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of my sins. Whether I am living in plenty or in want in spite of circumstances. I desire to be contented in what He has blessed me with. The Lord gives the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the ennoble. YIELD myself to the plan and calling that God has given in my life (Luke 9:23). In my public world. God has called me to three areas of which I apply the talents given me interchangeably amongst them: Youth Ministry (teaching discipleship encouragement). Design (web design desktop publishing) and Songwriting (lyrics melodies) all of which are to be used in the process of witnessing disciplemaking and fulfilling the Great Commission. In my private world. I am called to strive on in this journey of sanctification to encourage a consistent devotion towards Christ and let that overflow towards others relying on His strength to see me through everything especially when tempted at my weakest points. In my inner world. I seek to know God more each day and bring home the bacon at the point where I can believe everything 'assail' compared to the surpassing knowledge of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord (Philippians 3:8). answer others in love as Christ has loved to be a salt and light unto the world (Matthew 5:13-14,16). I decide to act rather than act to people and situations. Be it in thought speech and action regardless of be and status. I seek to put others before me just as Christ has for His children. I humbly adjudge that I am unable to love and care for others by my own strength; I can only do so in Him. SPUR one another on towards like and good deeds (Hebrews 10:4-5) towards fostering the deeply satisfying relationship one can undergo with God. I believe that in life’s circumstances and uncertainties living a life that is rooted in Christ is akin to a vessel firmly anchored in the midst of storms. However God leads..
