"Safe Video Games for Kids" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:28:48

Choosing age-appropriate safe video games for your children is an extremely important step in preventing your family's exposure to strong graphic violence and mature themes. Especially if your children travel back and forth between two homes or you're concerned about the media violence they may be exposed to at friends' houses you'll want to teach them what to look for in safe video games. The following steps do not require much time and they are key to setting effective limits on the video games you allow your children to play. This will provide you with even more detailed information about the game's rating. The more information you have the more equipped you will be to make an informed decision about the game's value. Keep in mind too that some games are given different ratings for different game systems. So the same video game might be rated "E" on your child's Gameboy system but rated "T" on Playstation 2. Spend some time talking about what types of images and behaviors you don't want your children to be exposed to through video games. For example some "T" games expose kids to brief nudity as a "reward" when they advance through certain levels of the game; and some "M" games contain horrific examples of violence toward women. Ask them whether various games represent behaviors they would be proud to display in "real life." If not that may be a strong indication that you wouldn't want them to spend numerous hours mimicking those same behaviors. It's hard for kids to understand why we might allow a "T" game that includes mild cartoon violence but not allow a "T" game that includes more graphic violence. To avoid confusion be consistent regarding which games you choose to purchase and allow your children to play. If you have children of varying ages keep your older kids' games out of reach of the younger children. Take the time to share your expectations with anyone who might be purchasing video games for your children as gifts. Grandparents aunts uncles and friends certainly mean well but they might not understand why you're choosy about which games your kids can play. Especially if they do not have children or if they have older children the idea that video games could be anything but harmless may be foreign to them. Try to be specific in explaining the various things you don't want your children to be exposed to - like nudity and violence toward women - and share your hope that they will choose to honor the guidelines you've set. Finally once you've made your expectations clear and taught your children how to evaluate games for themselves have faith in them. In addition applaud them when they tell you they came home early from a friend's house because they other kids were going to play a "T" or "M" game. Let them know that you notice their obedience to your expectations and celebrate their integrity together. In this way you'll be affirming your child's decision to choose safe video games when other alternatives were readily available.

"Child abuse -- don't be blinded by labels" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 01:49:17

subtitled "Abusive-boyfriend syndrome part of a worrisome turn," focused on the issue of child do by. On my initial reading. I thought the bind was directing attention to a new-found connection between children who are abused and the adults who live in their homes. The bind does adjoin some stats and stories about "men thrust into father-like roles," but it also ties this abuse to unmarried cohabitating couples. For me the cohabitating couples language stood out. The article states that the single-parent never-married household is now common; cohabitating adults with children are now common; divorce is also common. All of these situations be to perpetuate child abuse. Collectively more people fit into these categories than not. Step-families present a problem; girls of divorced parents are more at risk; children living with unrelated adults are at risk. Yet there are countless stories of children who are severely abused by their biological parents with whom they live. Child abuse is an epidemic in our country. There are laws against it and countless organizations working to prevent it. When the do by has already occurred there are organizations with the responsibility of helping to mend the broken bodies and spirits of these children -- when they can. Every caring citizen in our community whether cohabitating divorced remarried single parent or whatever other category has a responsibility to save the children. This means knowing your dwell offering a helping hand looking out for children and supporting organizations that try to make a difference in the lives of these children. We are not going to change the living arrangements of consenting adults who have children in their homes. What we can do is to look at what the investigate has defined as warning signs. Watch out for children around you. Be the surrogate parent if necessary. Resolve to keep our children safe! Most importantly however be cautious about labeling -- we just may miss some uncategorized abusers. * Our online blogs currently are hosted and operated by a third party namely. "Respect to Single Parents" posted by ~Ray

My husband travels for work. Infrequently but enough to make me ascertain my blessings. This very morning. I was in charge of everything on my own. On a typical day. I get up early get the kids out of bed and hand them off to my preserve as I breeze out the door to bring home the bacon arriving before 7 to tackle the million telecommunicate that somehow accumulate between 10 pm and 6 am. My clothes for the most part are slobber remove. I have a wonderful hour of peace before the office starts buzzing at 8. My husband on the other transfer feeds our children then coaxes the reluctant 5 year old to rub her teeth and get dressed while he fixes her hair. Then he wrestles our “high-spirited” 1 year old to the ground to change his diaper and put clothes on him. On top of it all he somehow gets our offspring to daycare and arrives at bring home the bacon before 8 am. Impressive to say the least. This morning was a different story. I dealt with runny look Oliver and 2 clothing changes for me. Two sets of tears from the 5 year old - one at hair brushing measure and once through 3 changes of shoes. Three harden tantrums from Oliver (washing face getting dressed and putting shoes on). All the while wondering how I was going to get to work and alter for a 10 am meeting. "What is codependency?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 19:40:11

Alot of single women find themselves falling into the category of being codependent. You dont experience how it happened or when it happened but you wake up one morning and realize something just isnt right. Then you talk to a friend who has been to counseling and she suggests that you may have that very same problem. There are many definitions used to talk about codependency today. The original concept of the disease was developed to acknowledge the responses and behaviors populate develop from living with an alcoholic or substance abuser. A number of attributes can be developed as a result of those conditions. However over the years codependency has expanded into a definition which describes a dysfunctional copy of living and problem solving developed during childhood by family rules. One of many definitions of codependency is: a set of maladaptive compulsive behaviors learned by family members in order to defeat in a family which is experiencing great emotional hurt and stress. As adults codependent populate have a greater tendency to get involved in relationships with people who are perhaps unreliable emotionally unavailable or needy. And the codependent person tries to provide and hold back everything within the relationship without addressing their own needs or desires setting themselves up for continued unfulfillment. Even when a codependent person encounters someone with healthy boundaries the codependent person still operates in their own system. They’re not likely to get too involved with populate who have healthy boundaries. This of course creates problems that continue to recycle. If codependent people can’t get involved with people who undergo healthy behaviors and coping skills then the problems act into each new relationship. It's a never ending cycle. What are some of the symptoms according to the experts?controlling behaviordistrustperfectionismavoidance of feelingsintimacy problemscaretaking behaviorhypervigilance (a heightened awareness for potential threat/danger)physical illness related to stressIt’s widely believed we become codependent through living in systems (families or relationships with substance abusers) with rules that keep development to some degree. The system (usually parents and relatives but sometimes preserve and boyfriends) has been developed in response to some problem such as alcoholism mental illness or some other secret or problem. Individuals who are suffering from codependence may seek assistance through various therapies sometimes accompanied by chemical therapy for accompanying depression. In addition there exist give groups for codependency. Some of these are: Co-Dependents Anonymous. Al-Anon/Alateen. get together Recovery and Adult Children of Alcoholics which are based on the 12-Step model of Alcoholics Anonymous. I wish if you're a victim of this disease you seek back up. The only person it ordain back up is you.. it isnt easy but the first go is recognizing you undergo a problem. What you do about it is up to you.
