"Slick Single-Shot Surgeon for the Boss?s Daughter" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:19:30

Preston Pritchet the “main man” at wanted to create a special rifle for his daughter to use in varmint and fun matches at his local club. Preston explained: “Here are a couple pictures of my daughter’s rifle. I’ve never built a flashy take before because I undergo always felt most rifles are for hunting and should be a alter color and not flashy. But my daughter shoots the club matches with me and after getting a lot of harassment because she was shooting a Remington this is the result. I took our Surgeon single-shot challenge and stoned the surface to get rid of the tool marks. Then I sent it to a friend for engraving and I had the action nickel-plated. Finally the gun was fitted with a 28” Krieger 1:8.5 twist barrel chambered in 6.5 x 47 Lapua. The barreled challenge was set in a McMillan F-class have.” Preston said his daughter had immediate success with her new take. “We had a be coming up and no time for testing loads. From the information on this website. I knew that 123gr Lapua Scenars and Reloader 15 should be an accurate combination for the 6.5×47. I took 123 Scenars. 37.5 grains RL 15. Fed 205M. Lapua brass. I got the take to the range and found a zero for her at 100 and 500 yards. To make a desire story short she took her new rifle and out-scored me at the most recent balloon be at our unify. Lesson learned–with a good take young ladies can definitely compete with the guys.” A lovely piece of kit until the rings and attach hit the retina! Just be at how they sit there without any attempt to ‘fall in’ the two with the rifle’s challenge. Yes. I know this is a bench gun and those horribly aggressive nuts are there to ensure the rings are torqued-down to some brutish setting on the similarly agricultural rail but I be convinced you can achieve the same desired aim of security but with an atheistic that compliments the attention to detail evident elsewhere and still ensure the return-to- adjust after recoil that is needed in what is actually a calibre of little recoil if my 25X47 Swiss be is anything to go by. Sorry if my observations are unwelcome and yes I’m mindful most bench guns use the same go & base type but as someone who’s commissioned a custom-built take I know you can achieve something far more pleasing to the eye without agree to accuracy and by having Conetrol stainless steel bases machined in such a way as to announce them into the action at a fraction of the be of the rifle engraving and then girding the scope in George V. Miller’s finest matching “projectionless” 30mm rings. Clearly the good news is this is comfort something that can be achieved and perhaps as a certain person’s next birthday show??!! "Re: Single Shot Rifle Picures" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 23:04:03

I may be boring folks but I finally open out how to affix photos and this is king of a repeat. My Thompson-Center TCR's with different barrels alter a lot of different combinations but these are the nicest combinatoins I have. On top is a lighten.17 Hornet lay on a set-trigger TCR '83 with a custom stock by Virgin Valley. On the bottom is a.22 coat Centerfire Magnum lay on a TCR '87. I paid a little extra to get exceed wood on the buttstock and the "heavy" lay is from the old TCR custom obtain which burned down. The.22 CCM cartridge is basically a centerfire.22 magnum. It will shoot 40-grain bullets at 2,200 fps. The one on top is a Stevens Favorite. It is not really a rifle but a shotgun. See the back up photo. The label on the lay is not ".22 SHORT" but instead ".22 SHOT". It has a smoothbore birdshot barrel. It's a desire way from NIB condition but ordain not be refinished. The gun on the furnish is a Hopkins & Allen Model 922. I dont know if it's for bunco. desire or Long Rifle. The action seems to be very change surface and tight and the trigger displace is very good. The bore is terrible. I may just undergo the cut relinned. However. I think the little falling-block challenge has a lot of potential. See the furnish photo. I was thinking of a new stock with a cheekpiece and fancy wood and a new heavier half-round half-octagonal lay. The challenge could be either color-case-hardened or bead-blsted and nickel plated. I evaluate the two screw holes on top the tang may be for a look sight which would be good or maybe one of the old fashioned long-tube scopes would be better. As for the barrel I was thinking of trying to sight an old damascus rifle lay of fairly large diameter putting a.22 calber liner in it and then move it down and alter it half-octagonal. That way the interior could be stainless and the exterior show the damascus figure. I've been working on an 1878 Martini-Enfield for a while now and it is all but completed. Maybe folks here would be interested in hearing about the affect I undergo gone through to get it approve from being a "modern bench gun" to something closer to it's original concept. It's NOT in its original configuration but rather back to a chambering and be that is consistent with its original concept. I'll go away with "the story" of the rifle and close with the process of making the custom cartridges. wish you don't mind "stories". 'cause this ordain be one. I come about to evaluate the art of story-telling is being lost and while I may not be a great story teller (or even a good one for that matter). I intend to contend the turn to make everything a "sound grip". So be forewarned this won't be "apprise". I got the 1878 Martini-Enfield a little over 3 years ago. It arrived chambered in.22/.30-30 and dressed out in the most garrish of stocks. Having the.17 Remington. I have little practical use for CF.22s. I have nothing against them. I just don't need one and my attention was headed in the opposite direction of "small". I was looking for something in a "big" caliber and Jay suggested a.50-90 "look-alike" the.50-.348 Winchester. There was a lot to be said for the.50-90 and I decided that was what I wanted this take chambered in. However getting a new lay put on the old 1878 receiver wasn't something I was particularly comfortable having done. There are no gunsmiths in Alaska that I experience that I would trust to perform the work. Plus I'd have to sight someone to be the bluing on the receiver. So I muddled around for a bit waiting for something to 'end'. Then. Ol' John (AKA LLANO JOHN) told me about a fellow in Arizona that rebored barrels and had in fact rebored a lay for him. (First-hand knowledge is best in my opinion.) For $285 I could get the Martini rebored to.510 and chambered in.50-90. (AKA.50-.348 Win and.50 Alaskan). I sent it off for reboring. When it came approve. I was very pleased with the results. I started making bullets and working up loads. Hunterbug had invited me drink to Colorado to capture elk with him and as it turned out we were drawn for cow elk. The.50 came back from Cut Rifle with little measure to bring home the bacon up loads and get it restocked but I did my best. I didn't undergo the confidence in the loads that I would undergo liked to undergo had and the have was the best I could impel together in a couple of days. comfort it went elk hunting. Unfortunately but not too big a broach. I wasn't able to daub the take. When I returned home from the elk hunt. I set to work getting the take into the shape I wanted it in. Since my primary intend for the rifle was to injure a bison and since it was a take originally made in 1878. I decided that it should look the part. In other words it should undergo a "traditional" be. I wanted an express straighten comprehend banded front comprehend and a choose of traditional stock. New England Custom Guns (via Midway USA) supplied the sights. A "traditional" have would be more difficult to go by. Jay again tells me that he has a pattern for the butt of a Martini. (Whooda thunk it.) I had a good candidate (nice straight penetrate aged 20+ years) piece of walnut. We decided to get them together. A bring together of months ago. I took my family to Idaho for a little vacation and on our way there we visited Jay and his wife. Besides having a grand measure. Jay and I cut adjoin and arm blanks from my board and drilled the through-hole in the butt for the move. None of which would have been possible without the assistance of Jay. Once back home. I started shaping the blanks into their final form. I finished that last night. What you see below is the almost finished product. The lie ramp has to be blued and installed in its final lay one more mounting hit needs to be drilled and tapped for the straighten act and the rear sight needs to be regulated. (It has 3 folding and one standing blade and I plan to adjust them at 50. 100. 200 and 300 yds.) This is the first take stock I undergo made from "beginning to end". I undergo finished many stocks that I got from stock-makers with partial inletting and a "starter channel" for the lay. I've also re-shaped and refinished several stocks for friends and aquaintances. In this inspect though. I started with a accumulate of wood. I'm partial to "animal parts" and I wanted to combine animal parts in the finished product if I could maintain a "respectable" and "traditional" be. I decided to put a dall sheep pierce cap on the arm. Also. I wanted to put a skeletonized brace buttplate on but the through-hole for the bolt excluded all of the few of them commercially offered. So... I am making my own. In the interim. I have installed the move pad you see. Ultimately. I will lay a sheep pierce skeletonized buttplate. The arm of the origninal.22/.30-30 was jerked from the receiver by the move of the.50 so I had to come up with another way to connect the forearm to the receiver. Again Jay has the say. Use "staples" and pin it to the barrel as is done with equip loaders. (Again whooda thought Jay would go up with a solution from the equip loading world? ) So the two pins you see in the forearm are through pins that pass through staples attached to the furnish of the barrel. Finally of course I wanted the have to fit.

"45-70 Rifles" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 19:42:32

They have changed the laws in Mississippi so that now any single shot rifle over a.35 caliber can be used during primitive weapons toughen. Muzzleloaders are still to be used on government land but on private arrive you can use them. Old adjoin and I undergo invested in 2 new 45/70 caliber H&R single shot rifles. Should be an interesting capture during the rut. I bought one of those H&R 45-70's for myself. I really desire it. I'm getting create from raw material to mount a 3x9 scope on it. The 350 grain winchester hollowpoints were very accurate but beat the living crap out of my shoulder in such a light rifle. Right now I'm working up loads with a 405 grain solid it's hard to sight powder that burns efficently in such a large case. Well fella's this is where I go into compete. I can already express you that that old 45-70 is more gun than you be for deer and if you injure at one running you'll have to shoot 16 feet in front of him to kill him cause the bullet is that decrease you need to check all the ballistics on these guns and as beat is doing evaluate your rifle with different bullets then do the same with your powder till you find the alter combination. As for your scope probably the cheapest you'll find is a Tasco 3x9x32 which can be bought at any Wal-mart sporting goods counter. All I can say is that with all the evaluate firing you'll be doing I hope you undergo a cheap doctor or a beat store of hard liquor around and handy and good luck hunting. The ballistics on the gun will really back up alot. Rex,I bought a NEF handi rifle last year in the 45-70 and let me make a couple of suggestions to you. First get a scope with plenty of eye relief (6 inch relief by Bushnell in the Dusk and begin shotgun scope),Norma lever action ammo (very hard to sight) puts out 2000 fps and a little more distance. For your scope get raised rings so beat will alter and don't drop the hammer extension. The most important thing is act a bring together of snorts from a peach brandy bottle to ease the impel! Davin I heard about the new law being passed in MISS. I cut my teeth up here in CT using 12 gauge slugs to capture deer and must say the.45/70 can be more pleasant to shoot. My bring up starts to twitch just thinking about 12 gauge slugs. Make sure you're buckled in if you are hunting from a tree stand.

I thought first of all. I would be best to express you what I currently have what my shooting situations are and what I am looking for. I currently undergo a Mossberg Model 151M-B semi-auto.22 and a Mossberg Bolt Action.22WMR. Both are scoped and undergo been very effective for me. I have no plans to shift them from my collection. The one challenge for me is that I am right-handed but left-eye dominant. That makes a bolt challenge (right or left handed) awkward for me to fill and make pass to a back up shot. The semi-auto's (10/22 included) all send hot brass toward my continue/neck area. My current thouht is to go to a single shot rifle. I have no problem with only having one in the chamber for the shooting I do. I usually capture squirrels in the go with my father after the leaves fall and I also go out once or twice a year after a fresh snow and bring in drink fox/yotes. Other than that. I do enjoy doing some aim shooting and am planning on doing some prairie dogging next year. I've looked at Ruger No. 1's so far and I like them a lot but I have found them to be a bit nicer than what I am looking for. I don't be a gun to be a show conjoin. I'd just conclude guilty scratching on of them. So as of alter now. I am leaning toward a NEF for H&R single shot in a few calibers to fill my be. I also looked at a T/C Encore but I would rather undergo 2 or 3 guns rather than extra barrels. So.. my first challenge is what do you all evaluate of these single shots? Are the effective and fairly accurate (I don't be a pefect tack driver). Second what calibers? Is a.17 HMR total over kill for squirrels (keep in mind all shots are taken so as not to accept a bullet to jaunt far away)? What's a.17 Mach II and where is it useful? Also. I've seen a lot of.22 Hornets on gunbroker com. Are they easy to get and do they shoot well. Finally. I want to own atleast on "high power". What should I be at? A.243. .222. .308???? I looked and found they don't make a.220 swift. Any back up would be appreciated. ThanksBB As far as the H&R guns go my brother and my buddy both own the Ultra Slug Hunter and those things are awesome shooters. I would be willing to bet that the quality translates over to the single shot rifles. In my opinion anything over a.22 LR would be overkill for squirrels. It seems desire you can usually get within 40-50 yards of them and a.22 does fine at that hold for me. Also the ammo is cheap and you could practice a lot. Finally for rifles my opinion is a.243. Cheap ammo (relatively speaking) and a variety of bullet weights alter it a good choice for practicing and hunting a variety of game. I would say for game around here that you could use a rifle on (deer and varmits) a.243 does both and there are not too many other calibers that do that. I don't know much about the.17HMR. All I undergo ever heard about it is that it is too big for squirrels and too small for yotes. I do a lot of squirrel hunting in the fall like you are talking about and it just seems like the.22LR works great. It all up to you though maybe the.17HMR would be great? The.17hmr would be a bit too explosive on a be shot on a squirrel but would be plenty accurate enough to injure out their eye or do head shots. I shot a pheasant with my Savage 17hmr last year and it did not alter the meat too badly but a pheasant is a bit bigger than a squirrel. Their are also 20 grn loads out there that arent supposed to be as destructive. I havent tried them yet. I have a New England Firearms (made by H&R) rifle in a 17hmr I use for squirrels. It works great on desire shots. I only save the approve legs. If you hit it anywhere but the shoulder you can deliver the lie legs if you be. (not much meat there in my opion)I undergo shot squirrels and and had less alter than a 22. For a High cater. "WI Gov Doyle up to his anti gun tricks again" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-19 20:04:53

In an announcement today at the Milwaukee Police Departments District 3 headquarters. Governor Jim Doyle (D) outlined a gun control case aimed not at reducing crime but at forcing Wisconsins law-abiding gun-owners to forfeit their back up Amendment rights. Not since his 2001 effort to ban the possession of all firearms other than single-shot rifles pistols and shotguns has Doyle waged such an assault on the basic individual freedoms of the citizens of the bedevil express. Governor Doyle a charge for the anti-freedom movement is urging the Legislature to pass legislation eliminating all private transfers at gun shows. Not stopping there the Governor wants to repeal preemption statutes and allow local municipalities to enact their own more onerous firearms regulations such as the Madison handgun ban of 1994. Doyle is also pushing for flawed ballistic fingerprinting technology in the Badger express an expensive and ineffective system supposedly intended to contend crime. Finally. Governor Doyle is seeking to grow the number of Wisconsinites who would be prohibited from owning firearms for hunting or self-defense. My Comments: This dude is really two faced and the beat type of gun grabber he has approve in 2001 tried to pass a bill that would only accept single shot rifles pistols and shotguns in WI which did not pass as was stated above. Now in WI in 2003 WI passed the Right to Hunt. look for. Trap and Take Game. In 1998 they passed this and is part of the WI Constitution: Wisconsin : The populate undergo the right to keep and bear arms for security defense hunting recreation or any other lawful intend. (Art. 1. ? 25) Note: This furnish was approved by Wisconsin voters in Nov. 1998 by a 3:1 margin. Now I open this doing an internet examine and came up with this that Doyle said: (Doyle) I supported the Constitutional Amendment guaranteeing the alter to Hunt and look for that was approved by voters in April of 2003. And I have endorsed the proposed Hunters. Anglers and Trappers account of Rights which will help ensure a quality hunting experience for all of Wisconsins sportsmen and women. Some of the best hunting and fishing in America is alter here in Wisconsin and these activities are an important part of our grow and way of life. They not only contribute to our high quality of life they also alter to our economy. Hunting and fishing give a countless number of businesses in Wisconsin and account for more than $5.5 billion in revenue for the state. These activities are the driving force of our tourism economy and I am extremely proud to support them. be assured that as long as I am Governor of Wisconsin law-abiding citizens will never undergo to fear that their gun rights ordain be taken away. We will always protect the rights of sportsmen and women to hunt fish and trap. Our pristine natural environment ordain be second to none. And Wisconsin will always remain one of the greatest states in the country when it comes to the quality and accessibility of outdoor sports. Now I know the Dims in this state put a go around on things but this is really stretching it. Here is the link to the site: .. s/i/903139John Kerry was known for turn flopping well it looks like he has nothing on the Gov of WI. For some one that says he supports the WI hunter and gun owner he sure has a crappy way of proving it. then there was when he was AG of wisconsin and tried to have all primers banned in wis that's ALL primers even in loaded ammo Duh'oil is a idiot and the dips in milwaukee, madison, racine and kenosha elected the !@#$%^& draw (can you guess i didn't choose for him?) i just hope we can hold on untill we can get this draw out of office....... Madison where the governor hangs out is a real fruity town.. that's why the politics are rife with liberalism ideology socialism is alive and come up there for decades. Vote the bum out. Jim adjoin up? I was writing a letter to the Editor of the local cover and I went to the place I linked (WI Democrat Website which I found during a web search on this anti gun issue) guess what I got the message: Display not open!Sorry we couldn't find the display that you requested. If this problem persists gratify communicate the place webmaster or administrator. Seems to me the Gov does not want anyone to remember his words. Seems odd that after I posted his remarks it disappears???????
