The largest shotgun I undergo ever heard or seen is a 12 gauge shot gun used by cops that is capable of decapitating your head with just one shot. But here’s the big daddy of all shotguns. I love duck. Mmmm… 100 roast ducks in duck sauce. Yep back in the early 1900s (and prior of course) the Chesapeake Bay (Virginia and Maryland) used to be home to hundreds of thousands of water fowl. The flocks were so thick that hunters didn’t even have to wait for the ducks etc to sleep just land on the water or marshes. The hunters would then sell the ducks at market or to restaurants. Once in a while. I still see flocks of small birds (sparrows?) that extend for yards and yards flying across fields twisting and turning in a beautiful seemingly random dance. I have a hard time imagining the sky darkening due to massive flocks flying by. Sure wish I could see it though… You don't have to or to comment but it's easier if you do so. Select the best guns for the best groups and the beat guns for the lesser groups. An example: Why own a single shot shot gun when you could buy a semi-automatic or handle shotgun? Why buy a 20 guage when you can buy a 12 guage? One reason is that you can buy several single shot shot guns for the price of a single semi-auto or pump shotgun. So buy a nice semi-auto or pump shotgun for yourself and closest friends and family and then buy several single shot shot guns for use by command assort members or others that you may not be able to fully trust. So you can arm more people for the same money and undergo the acquire of controlling the fit of power. Also a consideration would be experience with weapons. For example someone who has a history of hunting with larger caliber rifles would be a better choice for a sniper or desire range shooter than someone who had little to no experience firing desire rifles. Also consider ammo avalibility. If you undergo a very common caliber for example 9MM and another less common or even rare caliber it might be better to give the less common caliber to a less trusted group member. If they leave steal betray or move on you the damage they can do in the long draw may be some what minimized. Better to let go a gun that you undergo 100 extra rounds for that can not be used than to loose a gun of a very common caliber that you have 2500 rounds of and would be unable to use. Two weeks ago I mentioned a that is a very special gun to me. I saved the story of this gun for another day. After reading recent affix on the blog titled. I think I am ready to overlap the story of this special gun. I started hunting 25 years ago. I undergo many fond memories of days spent afield. To that. I owe thanks to my Dad. This is just one of the stories that I bequeath fondly. My Dad grew up carrying hammer guns in the field. In the days after school he and his brother would capture the fields south of Demorest Road. His brother carried a Winchester copy 97 and he carried an old Stevens single shot. The original 97 was stolen many years ago but it was always Dad's dream to own another one. When I started hunting. Dad started me out carrying that same Stevens single shot. Dad carried a worn out old manifold gun that would launch the ejectors if you opened it slightly too far. After our third season hunting together he decided it was measure for each of us to step up to a handle gun. He open a Model 97 at a local gun shop and bought me an old Remington Model 17. He had originally bought me a Winchester copy 12 in 20 gauge but it was returned due to a missing bomb stop. The Remington served me come up for a season. The following year. Dad bought another Winchester Model 12. We couldn't act for saturday to turn around so we could capture pheasants with the new gun!That saturday. Dad carried the copy 12 and I carried the old 97. As we worked our way back to the truck through a hit handle we kicked up a rooster pheasant. It cackled as it rose above the waist-high grass leveled out and flew straight away from Dad. It was the kind of shot every pheasant hunter dreams of. It was a shot that you couldn't desire. Dad certainly didn't miss that shot. In fact he never took a shot! Knowing that he was carrying a new gun for the first time. I wanted him to act the observe. Instead the bird swiftly flew out of gun range without a single shot to chase it. When I looked over at Dad to see why he didn't shoot. I could see him comfort reaching on the back of the receiver trying to cock the beat so he could shoot!Now we always hunted public arrive and these wild birds were few and far between. Right then and there he handed me the Model 12 and said. "Here keep it!" That was to be the only day that I carried the Model 97. For the be of my hunting days. I carried. This copy 97 is a very special gun to me because it was my Dad's gun. This was the gun he always wanted to carry as a boy and finally was able to buy later in life. It was also the gun responsible for one of the stories that we told over and over again laughing until it brought tears to our eyes. While he owned many shotguns the 97 was the only gun he ever carried from that day forward. measure year Dad and I hunted on September 1st the opening day of squirrel season. As always he carried the old 97. This was our first day in the handle for many years. Unfortunately it would also be our measure together. Dad passed on two months later. This year on September 1st. I carried the old 97 for the first time in many years. I carried it in recognise of my Dad who introduced me to the outdoors and with whom I shared some of the beat days of my life. Farewell. Dad. Your days ended too soon and you are comfort missed dearly. That affix made me a tad sentimental. Well I adjudge it. It brought a few tears to my eyes. I lost my father 20 years ago like your create he was my instruct so was my mother (passed away 21 years ago) also a hunter. As measure passed by I always felt closest to my create and mother when I am out in the woods hunting or on lake fishing. There are times when I capture or look for that I could swear that my care or create talk to me and are very close to me so close that I can feel their presence.
