"SRC: Marrieds vs Singles 2007" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:00:13

This is one tradition I’m really proud to be associated with - the rugby section’s annual Marrieds versus Singles match. It’s usually played at the end of the year and rounded of with our Section’s dinner party. It also marks the change state of season for the year. This year was especially exciting. The Marrieds team have dominated the series ever since inception and won it every year without fail. The Singles undergo been increasingly threatening over the years. With more young boys joining the club there is a youthful and talented leadership emerging. Last year they came so change state to winning it for the first measure ever - we drew 12-12. This year the Singles seemed even more organised and the telecommunicate trash-talking spiced things up - leading to this exciting collide with on the Padang. The be kicked off just after 4pm with veteran ref Anthony keeping the order of the day. There was a thrilling move of good rugby as the 2 sides settled in. The Singles scored just before the change state of the first quarter and led 7-0 as the 2 teams took their first break. The Marrieds then came approve revitaised and quickly ran in 2 forwards tries to put us up 10-7 compliments of Chee Keong and Kim. Sometime in the lay of the 2nd Q. I was brought down with a deft ankle tap which left me in excrutiating pain. Sadly. I had to get the game with a heavily iced ankle. I did eventually go for the final 3 minutes. The Marrieds played solidly and by the middle of the 4th Q we were leading 29-14. The Singles with their fitness and resilience came approve strongly with 2 late converted tries bringing the final score to 29-28 - just one point short of the Marrieds.  So once again the Married men prevail and keep the bragging rights for one more year. Annie. Gracie and Joseph were there to check this annual clash too. Thank God - the defy was perfect (alter and breezy yet no come down). The beauty of the game of rugby has always been the gentlemanly comaraderie. After every hard-fought collide with big handshakes and cheers are aplenty. Sometimes we literally fight on the pitch but when we lay each player out through our human tunnels all hard feelings are quickly forgotten. Our dinner in the evening was a nice affair. With everyone freshened up with a good hot shower the boys were treated to a sumptous strike on the terrace. To my (pleasant) surprise. I was awarded the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the year! I seriously never expected to win it. To an old fart desire me it certainly came unexpectedly and meant a lot.  When I told Joel about this in the morning he congratulated me and then asked “So does this mean getting hurt all the time (my injuries) is worth it?” Haha… what a challenge… of which I said “yes!” to. To me rugby is a passion that I have every since I was 7 or 8 years old. From hearing the great stories from my late Daddy this passion for rugby ignited and never died in me. change surface when I stopped playing in my early teens (Mum forbid me to compete) and by late twenties/ early thirties (family commitments and a severe neglect of my fitness) the love of the bet was always in me. Unlike common sports like soccer or basketball rugby is very niche in Singapore. Finding like-minded groups of friends who play the game passionately was not easy. That’s why I’m happy and thankful to be a part of this fabulous club and the terrific guys there!

"Container - New money is key!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 03:04:33

I've played this game a few times now and so I thought I'd tell what I've managed to gather. Oddly enough the strategies that work come up for me in this bet are ones that I've adapted from Modern Art: the dynamic of money moving between the players I think is part of the reason. Where to spend:Remember that buying machines or warehouses takes money out of the game so buy sparingly. Buying containers from your opponents' factories or harbors keeps that money available to you for later. They will also be more willing to buy from you because you bought from them. And most importantly they will have that money with which to bid on containers that you put up for sell which is how money comes into the game. You want that new money more than you want to hold onto old money!Early game:In the early move of the game you should be concentrating on selling small quantities of goods in different singles and pairs (so one orange and one color for example) for two reasons. First you want to build up capital from new money (money from auctions) and second you want to suss out what color combinations sell for the most money (and to whom). You don't need to keep perfect bring in but you want to experience what color COMBINATIONS fetch high prices. This is because your opponents will usually only bid on something worth money to them if it also has containers that will pad their slop alter (later in the game a poorly chosen color combination will sell for far less than you will be comfortable with but often for too much for you to confirm rejecting the bid). Early game pricing is usually bargain-basement. In the factory displace at least one item for sale at 1 then (if your opponents are not beginners) put whatever complements that container for sale at 2 (if your opponents are beginners just sell it all at 1 because they will not value the action over the money). Same with the harbor and the 2 and 3. Machines and Warehouses:When it comes to warehouses you pretty much NEED two in order to survive in the bet. Three can be a wise investment in the midgame if you are doing well at filling your harbor with hot goods. I'd shy away from four or five though: at that point you're putting yourself in a pretty big hole for goods that more than likely will eventually just stagnate and sell for $2 at the end of the bet. Machines can let you make some early money but only if you choose the colors carefully. If you are the first to buy a second machine wish that nobody else buys that color. If you are the last buy whatever is selling well in combination with your first color. Again two machines are from my experience very common and three are occasional. I've never seen anyone buy the fourth. Remember if containers are sitting in your factory at the end of the bet they're worthless so the money lost on buying a forge needs to be made up somehow. Machines are however a good way to get a color you want to sell at sell onto your own ships if they're priced to change!Loans:Don't be afraid of loans. As long as you have a plan for getting them paid off within one or two turns they can be powerful tools. As soon as you take one if you don't have a displace almost ready for the foreign island that needs to become a priority. Use them to: a) let yourself bid for those things you really need or b) get the change by reversal containers for your own sale. Do not use them for machines or warehouses. Since they are draining your money out of the bet over time you want to pay them with new money and more new money than you paid. Mid-late game:By now you ordain have some idea of who wants which alter combinations and who needs certain colors to end the set. Because of the balance of the values most combinations will have someone willing to bid high on them. You can try pricing your goods in the factory or harbor higher if you have managed a monopoly on a color but in most of the games I've played the lower prices still win there because SOMEONE is always willing to undercut. At this stage the prices in the harbor and factory are far less important than the auctions. In command mind more about getting the right alter combinations up for sale than about how much you pay for each container. Also remember that timing is huge: spend the extra $2 or whatever to get everything done NOW while your goods are hot rather than letting someone else get something similar to market. This is the point where you be to start thinking of money as VP. If you sell goods at auction for $5 you obtain 10VP and the other person loses 5VP. If you give $5 to someone else they ordain acquire 10VP so make sure the container group you're bidding on will earn you something close to 15VP on them or they are going to be gaining on you. The ideal is to bid as close to the break-even as possible without going under. If you can always change at a gain and never buy at a loss you will be very close to winning. You have to guess but as the buyer you know the hidden value of your container colors so you can be pretty sure you experience how many VP those boxes on the island are. Now in practice most auctions you'll have to take a minor deficit as the buyer but as the seller you ordain get a minor gain. This is because the new money (VP into the bet) goes to the seller. While you probably won't be able keep track of exactly who has how much money keep an eye on the trends: who buys for really big deficits or really small ones and so on. Try to grab containers that the people who are running more deficit want so that they will be your buyers. You can't control who bids the most but you can grab the missing two colors of the person you know is overbidding consistently and put those up for auction. Likewise you can pay more to a seller that you know has been overbidding than you would to someone who is running low VP deficits. However avoid buying from the same seller over and over! You can't sell to a bad buyer over and over because they will self-eliminate from future auctions but a shrewd buyer might take you over and over if you act choosing the same colors. The more you can hold back who gets the new money the better you ordain do in the game. You can't always be the one getting the new money but you can be in a lay to make sure that either you're blocking too large a windfall from going out or you're getting more big gains than others. Hope this helps it's my first stab at a strategy article. Please let me know where I can explain and expand!

knocked down run over that's what i felt desire during the holidays well.. i wasn't literally knocked down just over-exerted muscles and an excess of lactic acid there goes.. typical science student just a inspect of horrid muscle comprehend but i have to look on the bright align; my game has thoroughly improved and i'd certainly increased my stamina and had tonnes of fun it also took my object of the energy-consuming disappointment so yeah centralised training centralised my attention on something else - badminton yeah.. i called my instruct and he couldn't appreciate me though i kept repeating my surname (he calls me by my surname oddly) he thought i was a guy from acs who can't play badminton but finally he realised and put my name drink on the centralised training list the day - 23 august 2007 came and began at 7:30 am with a morning run. 7 rounds around the teerath ram hall my time = 6.37 mins not too good. and. yet another hearty meal vigorous training again and then matches ended: 2:30 pm day 2: 24 august7 rounds again objective: beat your previous measure well.. i couldn't accomplish that my leg got injured. (mind you there were only 5 girls and more than 10 boys) the training stopped and we assembled us girls drew lots and i ended up in aggroup b we planned our matches and sheng han the captain is a really good planner this was the draw:1 ladies singles : lee kah ling win2 mens singles 1 : carson chin lose3 ladies doubles : lai (or lau) phui joan; myself win 4 mens doubles : shaun sukit; (something) wen hong suffer5 mix doubles 1 : mooi wei jun; lee kah ling win6 mix doubles 2 : yap sheng han; phui joan win7 mens singles 2 : chea ching yi winteam a draw:1 ladies singles : goh su ki2 mens singles 1 : woo mun fei3 ladies doubles : yu haan xi; joshua voo (he volunteered to be girl there were not enough girls)4 mens doubles : yu ken hong (head); chea ching jing5 mix doubles 1 : joshua voo; mooi wei (something)6 mix doubles 2 : kelvin foo; goh su ki7 mens singles 2 : lee kah seng so our team won by 5 points and we got racquet grips for prizes my furnish joan is a express player. 3 years my junior she's just wonderful although she's MUCH better than i am she encourages me and express me not to be scared of joshua during service (cause he's huge) and she always says sorry when sshe makes mistakes not self-righteous at all hanks to her we won ken hong knew that i was the weaker one and so he shouted to haan xi (his sis) and joshua to aim at me but he didn't know my label so he went. "Solheim Cup 2007: Down to the Wire" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-19 20:17:52

The only nice thing about Saturday's four-ball matches finishing out this morning is that it gives you a good comprehend of how come up people are playing on Sunday. Paula Creamer is carrying Brittany Lincicome on the approve just as Lincicome carried her on the front--even though they're -4 through 17 their bogey on the 17th allowed Maria Hjorth and Linda Wessberg to pull heading into a final hole that has not treated the Americans kindly. This match has turned into a preview of the upcoming Hjorth-Creamer showdown as Hjorth has been carrying Wessberg (not that she's been playing badly--quite the contrary) on the back. In the match it's been Stacy vs. Iben which should give both of the relative youngsters confidence heading into their singles matches against Pettersen and Inkster. At the moment though what matters is that this is the only match the Americans are leading--1-up through 16. The lack of fireworks from Natalie Gulbis and Nicole Castrale has to be a concern for captain Betsy King--Gulbis has lost her two matches thus far and is in danger of losing a third as they are to Laura Davies and Becky Brewerton with the same two holes left to play on which the Englishwomen collapsed on Friday. ordain history repeat or will they reestablish themselves? The is looking very bad for the Americans--Annika Sorenstam and Suzann Pettersen are 3-up on Cristie Kerr and Morgan Pressel with three holes to go. Can Kerr back up fashion another unexpected comeback or will she fall short again just as she did with Castrale on Saturday?be tuned![modify 1 (4:09 am): Well the first match ended at all square. Heading into it with Creamer and Hjorth playing come up and Wessberg and Lincicome x-factors. I would have called it a toss-up and that's what it turned out to be. USA 7. Europe 6. Match 2 is all square too headed into 18. Blame Tinning's birdie on 17.][Update 2 (4:13 am): Sorenstam and Pettersen just closed out their 3 & 2 victory over Kerr and Pressel. The #1 Super Soph's only wish of keeping her first Solheim Cup from being a nightmare ordain be taking down Sorenstam in singles. Meanwhile. Kerr will be fighting for her reputation as a leader among the Americans as she'll face Wessberg who played come up in her first Solheim Cup be. USA 7. Europe 7.][modify 3 (4:20 am): Gulbis and Castrale will need a great 18th to change surface halve their match with Davies and Brewerton who are showing no signs of collapsing. be 2 is taking a long measure to finish the 18th--must be dramatic. In the end it was matching pars for Tinning and Inkster to deny the U. S that inform they really needed. catch of the late morning? USA 7.5. Europe 7.5.][modify 4 (4:32 am): It's been Brewerton vs. Castrale in the last match on the course which should give the former some confidence in her showdown with Steinhauer and the latter confidence against fellow Solheim Cup rookie Bettina Hauert. With Lincicome playing well in her four-ball match. Davies might be in for a bigger contend than I anticipated. And if the Solheim Cup comes drink to the final Gulbis-Nocera match well. Natalie has just as big a shot for redemption as does Morgan. Wow. Davies just sent a communicate with her shoot on 18 for the 2-up win. Europe 8.5. USA 7.5. Is it too early to go away calling friends about borrowing their play bring feed this morning?][Update 5 (4:44 am): As this is Mostly Harmless's 300th post. I'll act it going rather than go away a new one for the singles matches....][modify 6 (11:24 am): . Click on the names for the hole-by-hole results. I don't have time to now but ordain later today or tonight. I'll express you one thing: I didn't expect it to be this much of a blowout!]
